The latest season of Stranger Things broke previous viewing records after its first set of episodes premiered on Netflix on November 26th.
The latest season of the popular sci-fi teen drama, created by the Duffer Brothers, had a huge debut week, reaching 8.47 billion viewing minutes, according to Nielsen’s most recent report.
I was blown away when the show broke records with its fourth season back in 2022! Apparently, it had a massive 7.2 billion minutes viewed in just its first week – I read about it on Deadline, and it was incredible to see how popular it had become.

Nielsen doesn’t break down viewership by season, but reports that season 5 of Stranger Things accounted for 57% of the show’s total viewing time. Additionally, 59% of those watching were adults aged 18-49.
The numbers are even more striking when you realize this happened in just over four days and only the first four episodes of the fifth season were available.
As a point of reference, the fourth season of Stranger Things racked up 5.14 billion minutes of viewing time within its first three days after launching on May 27, 2022.
Honestly, the game didn’t really blow up until after the fourth season had been out for about a week. We started seeing those crazy player numbers between May 30th and June 5th, which was awesome!
The show is expected to attract a massive audience as the final episodes of season 5 air, bringing the story of the Hawkins group to an end as they make one last attempt to save the world.
The fifth season of Stranger Things begins in the fall of 1987, four years after Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) went missing.
With the military now controlling Hawkins and even operating in the Upside Down to find Eleven, the group races against time to locate the powerful villain, Vecna, before he can cause more harm.
The first part of the latest episode begins to explain Will’s link to Vecna, following his abduction in season one. (Be warned, spoilers ahead for Stranger Things season 5!)
The fourth episode, ‘Sorcerer,’ shows Will developing psychic abilities to protect his friends from the Demogorgon. Meanwhile, Vecna explains his scheme to build an army of children and change the world.
The next batch of episodes from Stranger Things season 5 – episodes 5 through 7 – will be available on Netflix starting December 25th in the US. Viewers in the UK will be able to watch them in the early morning hours of December 26th because of the time difference.
The final episode of the series will be 2 hours and 8 minutes long and will air on December 31st in the US and January 1st in the UK.
