Production on Season 5 of Stranger Things starts later this month with the release of the first part, and the creators, The Duffer Brothers, are warning fans that it will include the show’s most gruesome death scene so far.
In a recent interview with The Times, creators Ross and Matt Duffer (known as The Duffer Brothers) discussed past seasons of their Netflix hit, including what fans can anticipate in the final season and for their favorite characters. They revealed they had to remove some scenes due to excessive violence, but warned viewers to be particularly concerned about one death in season 5.
While season five isn’t generally as violent as season four, it features the single most shocking and brutal death of the entire series.
According to Ross, the show’s creators generally avoid excessive violence. However, one scene in season three was cut after costing around $40,000 to produce, and Matt remains upset about it. Netflix also removed a scene from season one showing a bullet going through the head of diner owner Benny Hammond because they considered it too graphic.
The Duffer Brothers, creators of the hit show Stranger Things, are moving to Paramount Pictures with a new four-year contract starting in April 2026. This deal will allow them to develop movies and shows for the studio, and they plan to produce large-scale films through their production company, Upside Down Pictures.
The creators of Stranger Things recently discussed their new deal, clarifying that they still have a good relationship with Netflix. They emphasized they aren’t dissatisfied with the streaming service, but actually appreciate it. As Matt Duffer explained, their decision stemmed from a long-held desire to create a movie meant for the big screen, something Netflix doesn’t typically produce.

Matt and Ross discussed the stress of finishing their show and wanting to avoid being remembered for a terrible finale, like the one for Game of Thrones. Matt explained that making sure each character’s story ended in a satisfying way was their top priority, even if it meant not giving fans exactly what they wanted.
The show Stranger Things has become incredibly popular worldwide, earning Netflix over $1 billion. After the heartbreaking events of its fourth season, the characters, who live in the made-up town of Hawkins, Indiana, need to unite and finally defeat the villain Vecna (played by Jamie Campbell Bower).
The fifth and final season of Stranger Things will be released in two parts. Volume 1 will be available starting November 26th, with Volume 2 coming on December 25th. The very last episode will premiere on December 31st.
