Although the latest season of Stranger Things has finished on Netflix, some fans feel something is still missing. In 2023, a stage play called The First Shadow – a prequel to the series – debuted in London and later came to Broadway.
“The First Shadow” is a play based on a story by the creators of Stranger Things, The Duffer Brothers, and written by Kate Trefry. It explores the backstory of Henry Creel, who eventually becomes the villain Vecna, and connects to the events of the show’s fifth season, offering extra insight for fans who have already seen it.
Good news for fans! Netflix is professionally filming a performance of Stranger Things: The First Shadow, meaning it will be available to watch at a later date, as confirmed by Collider.

Broadway performances of an unnamed show have been cancelled for a week, from February 10th to February 14th, to allow for filming on location, according to Collider.
The award-winning production, which won four Tony Awards, will bring back the original Broadway cast, including Irish actor Louis McCartney, who first played Henry Creel in the West End.

The supporting cast features T.R. Knight, known from Grey’s Anatomy, playing Victor Creel, along with Gabrielle Nevaeh as Patty, Bob Newby’s sister, and Alex Breaux as Dr. Brenner. Breaux was also in season five as Lieutenant Robert Akers.
No release date for the filmed version of Stranger Things: The First Shadow has been announced yet.
The play takes place in Hawkins, Indiana, in 1959. It centers around Henry, a teenager, and his family who move to town hoping for a new beginning.

The show’s story really takes off when Henry meets Patty, another person who feels like an outsider. Their connection sparks a romance that gives Henry hope he hasn’t felt before.
I’m really getting into this story about Henry! It’s so unsettling – when these awful crimes start happening, he begins to wonder if he’s somehow connected to them. Like, is there something within him that’s causing all this? It’s a seriously creepy thought and I can’t wait to find out what’s going on!
Stranger Things seasons 1-4 are streaming on Netflix. A fifth and final season is in production.
I’m so excited! They’ve just announced that ‘Stranger Things: The First Shadow’ is booking performances all the way up to September 7th, 2025 at the Phoenix Theatre in London. And the best part? Tickets are on sale right now, so you can get yours!
