Stranger Things prequel confirms Eddie Munson return

As a hardcore Stranger Things fan who has lived and breathed this Upside Down world since its inception, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the upcoming comic book series, The Rise of Hellfire. Eddie Munson, the metalhead we all fell in love with (and tragically lost) in season four, is making a comeback!

A new Stranger Things comic book series will see the return of Eddie Munson.

In the fourth season of Stranger Things, the arrival of Joseph Quinn’s charming metalhead character was particularly noteworthy. However, fans worldwide were left devastated when he selflessly gave his life in the last episode.

Although Eddie won’t appear in the fifth and last season of the popular Netflix series, it’s been announced that the head of the Hellfire Club will reappear in a fresh prequel comic book series called “The Ascent of Hellfire“.

Stranger Things prequel confirms Eddie Munson return

Dark Horse Comics collaborates with Dungeons & Dragons on a four-part limited series, delving into the game that ignited Eddie’s passion for Dungeons & Dragons, along with the story of how he convinced Lucas, Dustin, and Mike to become members of the Hellfire Club.

Before encountering actual monsters in their real lives, the destinies of the ‘Stranger Things’ boys were influenced by magic spells, sword fights, and the roll of dice.

In this blended comic, Eddie Munson’s ascension to an unofficial head of the Hellfire Club is depicted. It also includes memories of the epic D&D campaign that sparked his interest, the enlistment of Lucas, Dustin, and Mike, and brief peeks into the mythical realms they triumphantly dominated as a team.

The Ascent of Hellfire is penned by Jody Houser and Eric Campbell, illustrated by Diego Galindo, colored by Diana Sousa and lettered by Nate Piekos. The first issue hits comic book stores on February 19, 2025.

Upon watching Stranger Things season four, it immediately struck me that the tale of Eddie Munson and the Hellfire Club could make an ideal continuation for our Stranger Things and Dungeons & Dragons miniseries, as Houser put it.

Eric and I both have a deep understanding of how Dungeons & Dragons fosters camaraderie and storytelling, and it’s been delightful experiencing Hawkins with this perspective.
