Stranger Things: Netflix Hints at Byler as the ‘Endgame’ Ship

Be warned, this contains spoilers for the first part of Stranger Things season 5! Since its debut in 2016, fans have been passionately pairing different characters in relationships. While some rooted for Steve and Nancy, or Nancy and Jonathan, the pairing of Mike and Will (known as ‘Byler’) has gained a lot of attention. It seems Netflix is now signaling support for this particular relationship.

People online have noticed a funny search result! Since the beginning of the show, fans have paired Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard) as a couple, giving them the nickname ‘Mileven’. More recently, in season 4, it became clear Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) had romantic feelings for Mike, and fans started using the name ‘Byler’ to refer to them as a potential couple.

It’s hilarious! When I search for anything about Eleven and Mike’s potential relationship – like “Mileven Endgame” – I get nothing. But if I type in “Byler Endgame,” it takes me straight to articles and discussions about Stranger Things! The fan reactions to this difference are just as funny as the search results themselves.

The fifth season started on November 26th with the first part of the release. Throughout the season, Will struggles with understanding his sexuality and his feelings for his friends, all while facing the destruction of Hawkins and continuing the fight against Vecna (played by Jamie Campbell Bower).

Robin and Will had a deeply honest conversation about dealing with unreciprocated feelings and self-acceptance, realizing that embracing who you are – regardless of others’ opinions – is key to finding freedom. Soon after, Will was able to unlock his powers, which happened because he finally let go of what was holding him back.

No one knows which couple will last, or even if anyone will make it through alive, but fans who support Will and Mike (often called ‘Byler’) have been very vocal about what they want to see happen. With Will developing new abilities, Eleven finding her sister, and Mike being rescued by Will, it’s understandable why Stranger Things fans are having a hard time predicting the ending.

Okay, so everyone’s obsessed with whether Will and Mike or Eleven and Mike will end up together, but honestly, I’m really invested in Nancy’s love life! It looks like she’s stuck choosing between Steve and Jonathan, and things got crazy when we found out Jonathan bought a ring. Now all the fans are arguing about who she’ll pick, and I’m right there with them, trying to figure it out!

The first part of Stranger Things season 5 is now streaming on Netflix. The second part will be released on December 25th, and the final episode of the series will be available on December 31st.
