Stranger Things Lead Star Finn Wolfhard Announces Career Change After the Action-Packed Finale

Finn Wolfhard, known for his role in the popular Netflix series, is expanding his career beyond acting. While he was a key part of the show from start to finish, he’s now also stepped behind the camera as a director and is pursuing music.

In a recent interview with Esquire, Finn Wolfhard hinted that he may be stepping back from acting soon. He revealed he doesn’t have any acting projects currently planned, though he’s open to continuing if he finds a role he’s truly passionate about.

Besides acting, I’m planning to tour with my band next year and release a new album. I’ve been writing music for the past couple of years and I’m eager to get it recorded, so I’m keeping my options open.

Finn Wolfhard started acting professionally only two years before landing his breakout role in Stranger Things. He first appeared on television in 2014 as Zoran in an episode of The 100, followed by a guest spot on Supernatural in 2015. However, it was his role as Mike Wheeler in Stranger Things that really launched his career.

Since bursting onto the scene, Finn Wolfhard has been incredibly busy! He’s been in a ton of projects – everything from horror like the It movies to the recent revival of King of the Hill. And, of course, he’s been a huge part of Stranger Things right up until the very end. It was bittersweet seeing the show wrap up on December 31st, 2025, with that final episode, “The Rightside Up.”

Finn Wolfhard has talked before about how he dealt with the end of the show. He remembered everyone feeling sad about it ending, but he tried to stay positive, saying, ‘We’re all together, and that’s what matters.’ He’d avoid dwelling on the fact that it was finishing. He also described the huge turnout of people for the last day of filming.

I looked away from the screens and saw hundreds of people together in one room for the first time after working with each other for ten years. They were all just staring. It was a really disorienting experience, and it hit me that it meant the project was coming to an end.

Where Can Fans See Finn Wolfhard Next?

Finn Wolfhard doesn’t have any new movies or TV shows announced right now, but he won’t be off-screen for long. He’s scheduled to host the first episode of Saturday Night Live in 2026, which airs on January 17th. That episode of Saturday Night Live Season 51 will also feature a performance by musical guest A$AP Rocky.

Finn Wolfhard is working with his father, Eric Wolfhard (a lawyer, researcher, and former screenwriter), to write a movie about the band The Replacements. Wolfhard explained that the band’s bassist, Tommy Stinson, joined at a very young age, around eleven. While the band faced a lot of difficulties and personal struggles, Wolfhard believes their story is relatable because it explores what it’s like to be a child navigating the adult world.

Stranger Things is now available to stream in its entirety on Netflix.
