Stranger Things fans will be livid about this very smart Part 2 move by the Duffers

Fans of Stranger Things were thrilled when Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) connected with the hive mind and powerfully defeated the Demogorgons, seemingly breaking their bones and necks with ease.

The fans were overjoyed, letting out a collective sigh of relief. After a long wait, he was finally going to be able to do more than just react with fear. He was no longer just a survivor, always struggling to regain control. Now, he was ready to take charge and really make something happen.

However, that’s not quite how things played out in the second volume of the show’s fifth and final season. For much of those three episodes, the creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, didn’t really utilize Will’s powers, effectively sidelining him.

What to Read Next

It’s really frustrating that Karen Wheeler has killed as many monsters as Will Byers, even though she’s a strong character. Will is connected to the Mind Flayer and should be incredibly powerful when it comes to fighting creatures from the Upside Down.

It’s tough to say, but the Duffer brothers made the right call by not overemphasizing Will’s powers.

The fact that Will’s powers are tied to the hive mind explains why he can’t use them as easily as Eleven. It highlights a key difference in how their abilities function.

El spent years honing her abilities through intense training. It wouldn’t feel realistic for Will to achieve the same level of control in just a few days, and impressive displays of power from him would seem forced and undeserved.

However, dramatic events will still happen. We already saw a glimpse of what’s possible when the group in Hawkins used electricity on a dead Demogorgon, releasing energy that let Will connect with the hive mind.

We all saw what happened next.

Okay, seriously, Will’s power move in that scene was incredible! He didn’t just tap into the hive mind, he actually hacked into Vecna’s brain from miles away and took control of his body! It was just long enough to tell Max and Holly to get out of there, and the best part? He even managed to break Vecna’s ankle while he was at it! Talk about a satisfying moment.

Because Vecna forcefully invaded Will’s mind and unleashed a tremendous amount of power, Will quickly fell under Vecna’s control and remained unconscious for hours until El was able to save him.

Similar to Eleven, who escaped Vecna’s mental control in season four while in the Mind Lair, Will faces consequences when using his powers. Just as Eleven needs to eat to regain strength, Will gets exhausted after using his abilities.

Will still needs help developing his powers, and with only one episode remaining, he won’t have time to train enough to reach Eleven’s level. This means the show’s creators need to be strategic and rely on perfect timing and the right situations to deliver the exciting moments fans are hoping for.

At first, Will’s desire to connect with the hive mind came from a fear of losing the people he cared about, especially Mike, with whom he shared a strong connection. Remembering their time together gave him the drive to use his powers, leading to a particularly powerful scene in the show.

As the finale—which will be over two hours long—approaches, we can expect many intense and emotional scenes. These moments could lead to a particularly impactful scene focused on Will, something fans haven’t experienced yet. All that’s left is for the creators, the Duffers, to create that perfect emotional connection, and it will be unforgettable.
