Stranger Things creators want to avoid Game of Thrones comparisons with the ending
As a seasoned gamer and binge-watcher who has navigated through the highs and lows of countless series, I must say that the impending finale of Stranger Things feels like a breath of fresh air after the stormy ending of Game of Thrones. The Duffer brothers seem to have learned from the mistakes of their predecessors and are crafting an endgame that is not only well-paced but also rooted in the story’s origins since day one.
In 2019, when the series “Game of Thrones” concluded, its contentious ending has since been used as a model of how not to finish a wildly popular TV show. Now, as “Stranger Things” approaches the culmination of its fifth and final season on Netflix, editor Dean Zimmerman discloses that creators Matt and Ross Duffer took note of the errors in “Game of Thrones” when designing the finale for their own series.
Compared to the final seasons of “Game of Thrones,” the last season of “Stranger Things” seems more satisfying so far. This is because “Game of Thrones” rushed its storyline towards the end, possibly due to running out of books to adapt, but George R.R. Martin is still writing new books for the series. On the other hand, “Stranger Things” isn’t based on any specific source material, giving creators Matt and Ross Duffer the freedom to write their own ending, one they’ve been carefully planning since the show’s debut.
According to Screen Rant’s editor Dean Zimmerman, the production of Stranger Things for its final season is bigger than one could possibly imagine. Each season on the show, he admits that he doesn’t think it can get any bigger, but the Duffer brothers consistently prove him wrong by devising new and even more mind-blowing ideas.
Undeniably, the team is under a great deal of stress to produce an outcome that leaves everyone content. In simpler terms, they’re doing everything possible to prevent the kind of backlash that might resemble the response to the ending of “Game of Thrones.
“Their whole mission is to stick the landing on this final season where, controversially, a lot of people say Game of Thrones did not; they don’t want that, and they won’t settle for anything but perfection.”
Regarding what viewers might anticipate, it’s reasonable to expect an abundance of content in the final season, with some episodes extending beyond the typical movie length. As Zimmerman stated, “You won’t be left wanting, and I can confidently say that you’ll find roughly the same amount, possibly a bit more, content than we offered in season 4.
Season 5 has six episodes, so prepare to be seated for what’s essentially going to be six movies!
