Stranger Things 5 Replaced Tinsley Price as Holly, And Now the Actress Has Quit Acting

For the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, Netflix decided to recast the role of Holly Wheeler, who was previously played by twin sisters Anniston and Tinsley Price. The twins, who shared the role of Mike and Nancy’s younger sister throughout the first four seasons, have since decided to stop acting. As the character of Holly Wheeler has a larger role in the final season, requiring an older actress, the show opted to find a new performer.

Young actress Nell Fisher, who has appeared in shows like Bookworm, My Life Is Murder, and Evil Dead Rise, is now playing Holly, taking over from the previous actor, Anniston Price, who was 13. The creators of the show haven’t said why the role was recast, but it might be connected to a new career path for Anniston and her twin sister, Tinsley.

The identical twins have played Holly since the beginning of Stranger Things in 2016, but they’ve now decided to stop acting before the show’s final season. When fans asked on Instagram why they were leaving Hollywood, they simply said, “It’s a long story.”

Joey Fisher and his wife, Price, shared a clip of Holly from the first season on Instagram. The actress playing Holly wrote in the caption that she’s incredibly grateful to be joining the show right as it reaches its most exciting part.

If it’s been a while since you’ve seen the first season of Stranger Things, it’s definitely worth revisiting. It’s a really great season.

Despite the change, the Prices don’t appear upset about being replaced. They responded to a clip on Instagram with a supportive message, saying, “Can’t wait to see where you take our girl, Holly!”

Why Did Holly Get Recast from Tinsley & Anniston Price to Nell Fisher?

It’s hard to say if the Prices stopped acting because they were replaced in Stranger Things 5, or if Netflix decided to find new actors first, which then led to their departure. Since they don’t appear to be upset with the show or Nell Fisher, at least publicly, it seems more probable that the latter is true, assuming there’s a connection between the events.

Because Holly’s part in Stranger Things 5 is larger, the Duffer Brothers likely wanted to avoid having to split the role between two actresses. Choosing only one of the Price twins would have been difficult and could have created problems, so recasting might have been the most sensible solution.

Because more than three years passed between the end of Season 4 in September 2021 and the start of Season 5 in January 2024, the actors, who were once teenagers, have noticeably aged. To account for this, the show skips ahead a year and a half in time.

The show’s creators could have made Holly appear closer in age to the other characters by choosing an actress who looked a bit older. However, this choice is still puzzling, because Holly is meant to be only ten years old during the fifth season.
