As a dedicated cinema-goer and music lover, I was deeply moved by Stevie Nicks‘ recent health scare and her determination to complete her tour despite the setbacks. The image of her performing on stage in Glasgow, weeks after an unexpected hospitalization, is a testament to her resilience and passion for her art.
Around six weeks ago, due to an unexpected hospital visit, Stevie Nicks was compelled to cancel two concerts on her U.K. tour. However, she wrapped up her two-year long tour with a performance in Glasgow on Wednesday.
During the delay, Glasgow’s OVO Hydro arena announced that Nicks had rescheduled due to a “minor leg injury that needed surgery.” However, on Wednesday, the Fleetwood Mac legend disclosed further information about her unexpected health predicament.
“In Scotland, Nicks expressed her confusion to the audience. She unexpectedly fell ill with a strange infection, which then worsened rapidly.”
One night, she remarked, “Looking at my assistant past midnight, I suddenly felt the need to declare, ‘I believe we should go to the emergency room.'”
The singer of “The Edge of Seventeen” spent two days at the hospital and then called off her concert hours before it began, as well as postponed her Manchester, England performance by two weeks to July 16th.
She spoke to the audience in Glasgow, sharing that throughout this entire tour, she had been battling a struggle that began here. Determined as she was, she refused to let that past adversity keep her away from returning to this place.
On July 12, during her concert in London, Nicks had Harry Styles join her onstage as a special guest. They paid homage to the late Christine McVie, Nicks’ former bandmate who tragically passed away in 2022 due to an ischemic stroke, by singing a moving duet of Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide.”
About a year following McVie’s passing, Nicks shared with Vulture that McVie was more like a soul mate to her, and it seemed unlikely for Fleetwood Mac to carry on without her presence.
She expressed that it seemed impossible for someone else to take her place. “Without her,” she added, “what does Fleetwood Mac become?”
