Steven Knight’s returning hit BBC drama gets first look with Jack O’Connell
As a veteran of numerous historical dramas, I must say, the second season of SAS: Rogue Heroes has certainly piqued my interest. The first season was a captivating journey into the creation of this elite special forces unit during World War II, and now, with its move to the European front and the leadership change among the ranks, it promises to deliver an even more exhilarating narrative.
In the initial glimpse, it’s Jack O’Connell who takes charge of the elite troops as the BBC revives its series titled “SAS: Rogue Heroes“.
The historical drama created by Steven Knight, known as Peaky Blinders, examines the formation of a secretive commando group that conducted operations beyond enemy territories during World War II.
In the second installment, the team relocates from Cairo to the European theater following the capture of their commander, Lieutenant David Stirling (portrayed by Connor Swindells in the series ‘Sex Education’).
In simpler terms, when Paddy Mayne, who was second-in-command in Stirling’s team (played by Gwilym Lee in ‘The Great’), takes charge of the SAS, Bill Stirling, David’s brother, shows up to lead a second unit, aiming to counteract enemy advances.
In the year 1943, the Special Air Service (SAS) faced uncertainty about its future because Headquarters (GHQ) had doubts about their ability to keep up with intense combat operations within enemy lines (Axis lines).
In the second season, we welcome back Sofia Boutella from the movie “Rebel Moon” and Dominic West, known for his role in “The Crown”. Additionally, joining our main cast are fresh faces like Con O’Neill from “Happy Valley”, Jack Barton from “Heartstopper”, and Mark Rowley who appeared in “The Witcher: Blood Origin”.
Additionally, Edward Bennett (from the field of Industry) and Paolo De Vita (operating under a pseudonym) are also part of the ensemble for the second installment of “SAS Rogue Heroes.
On the very day that the final episode of SAS Rogue Heroes aired in December 2022, the BBC officially announced the show’s continuation for another season.
Lindsay Salt, head of BBC Drama, declared the series’ continuation: “The tremendous reception and massive viewership on iPlayer for SAS Rogue Heroes demonstrates Steven Knight’s remarkable ability to transform our history into compelling, can’t-miss television today.
Viewers of BBC have truly embraced this series, and we are thrilled to collaborate with Steven and Kudos to unfold the thrilling next phase in the lives of the Rogue Heroes.
You can start streaming the first season of “SAS Rogue Heroes” right now on BBC iPlayer. Keep an eye out for the upcoming second season, which is set to air on both BBC One in the UK and MGM+ in the United States soon.
