Steve Jobs’ Strange Diet Revealed by Apple’s Ex-Chief Designer

The individual behind the invention of the Apple Watch, who collaborated with Steve Jobs for a span of fifteen years and dined with him on a daily basis, has disclosed some peculiar dining routines of the tech titan.

Sir Jony Ive, aged 58, served as the Chief Design Officer at Apple until 2019 and remained a dear friend to Steve Jobs until his passing due to pancreatic cancer in 2011.

In an interview for the Ruthie’s Table 4 podcast, Sir Jony stated that Steve Jobs, with a net worth of approximately £649 million, expressed immense joy comparable to none other than when savoring a tomato.

On most days, we’d share a meal, either eating in the Apple canteen from Monday through Friday or stepping out for lunch together instead.

He was primarily a vegetarian or possibly a pescatarian, with a particular fondness for sashimi. His taste buds were exceptional, and we always enjoyed sharing sushi rolls and sashimi experiences with him.

However, enjoying a tomato drenched in delightful olive oil together could bring us both immense joy, and in such moments, his happiness would peak.

Born in North London, the designer spent his formative years in Silicon Valley after moving there in 1992. It was during this time that he began collaborating with Steve Jobs.

He was impressed by Jobs’s deep understanding of that region since he, being a tech titan, had grown up there as a kid. He commented that the Apple founder held a particularly moving affection for the location.

Sir Jony mentioned that he spent his childhood in Silicon Valley, gaining a unique perspective by witnessing the valley through the eyes of Steve Jobs.

‘His perception of the valley relative to San Francisco greatly enhanced his appreciation for the city’s significance, making it particularly captivating.’

Sir Jony now resides in the United Kingdom with his spouse Heather, whom he encountered at Newcastle University. The couple call a $22 million mansion in the Cotswolds their home.

2019 saw the announcement that renowned designer, Sir Jony, and his design partner, Marc Newson, were planning to establish a separate company called LoveFrom, after leaving Apple.

The Australian industrial designer shared with Ruth Rodgers, the owner of River Cafe, during her podcast that he had conceived the concept for the Apple Watch about ten years prior to its eventual realization.

According to Newsom, Jony had a lifelong passion for watches, expressing his desire to create one for Apple years before the idea was even suggested as a possibility.

It seemed hard for everyone to understand his thought process. Given the context of Apple, how might one design a smartwatch?

‘Did the world need a watch? This wasn’t long after the iPhone and the iPad had been invented.

However, his ambition was to design a watch, which he successfully communicated to the decision-makers at Apple, leading them to greenlight the project.

The Apple Watch was released in 2015 and has generated the company £15billion in revenue.

Newson continued: ‘It was clear the Apple Watch was going to be a success at first.

It’s remarkable to consider reintroducing a product that your grandparents would have been familiar with, yet the children of their era might not even be aware of it.

Suddenly, people started sporting wristwatches once more. This revived the concept of accessorizing with something worn on one’s wrist.

‘But now, I’m amazed, you see them on people on television and all around the world.

‘Safe to say it’s the most produced watch in the history of watches.

What he created stemmed from an unique passion that others couldn’t recognize; he’s distinctively uncommon.
