Steve Coogan’s new British movie lands fresh Rotten Tomatoes rating
In updated terms, the heartwarming British comedy-drama titled “The Penguin Lessons,” featuring the talented Steve Coogan, has recently earned a new score on Rotten Tomatoes.
In the first person as a gamer: I, a disillusioned Englishman in the ’70s, find myself teaching in Argentina, a country torn apart by division. My ordinary life takes an extraordinary turn when I stumble upon a helpless penguin stranded on an oil-soaked beach. This film recounts my journey with this unique companion and how it transforms me amidst the turmoil of the times.
Written by Jeff Pope, who previously worked with Coogan on “Philomena”, “The Penguin Lessons” features Björn Gustafsson, Vivian El Jaber and Jonathan Pryce in its cast. Peter Cattaneo, most recognized for “The Full Monty”, takes the director’s role in this production.

Observer
Despite the risk of being overly sentimental, a G-rated film, “The Penguin Lessons” manages to deliver a profound message with a quiet yet captivating influence. Everyone involved skillfully steers clear of this potential pitfall.
The Hollywood Reporter
From beginning to end, “The Penguin Lessons” captivates delightfully… What’s more, this book surprisingly tugs at the heartstrings, and its emotional impact is easily excused.
Variety
This material is quite humorous, skillfully delivered by Coogan’s ability to maintain a superior demeanor amidst the nonsensical. However, the movie loses some credibility when it ventures into the territory of tragedy.”
“Coogan’s talent for handling the absurd with an air of arrogance makes this content entertaining. But the film falters when it tries to tackle tragic themes.
The Globe and Mail
As a gamer, I can’t help but chuckle at Coogan’s dry wit as he watches the hilarious chaos unfold among penguins, teenagers, and even military regimes, all from the sidelines as an amused observer.
Arizona Republic
As a devoted admirer, I’d say Coogan’s humor is sharp, dry, and packed with subtle wit. It stands in stark contrast to the infectious silliness and cheerfulness that Björn Gustafsson brings to his performances.
The Wrap
If The Penguin Lessons doesn’t stir up tears from within you by its heartwarming conclusion, then perhaps it’s you who could truly benefit from having a penguin companion.
AARP
Unusually charming and frequently humorous, “The Penguin Lessons” stands out due to the captivating performance of Coogan. He possesses an exceptional talent for unearthing the softer sides of grumpy characters and uncovering their hidden depths.
The Penguin Lessons is released in cinemas in the UK and Ireland in 16 April.
