Steve Coogan’s new British movie confirms UK release date with first trailer

As a long-time fan and admirer of Steve Coogan’s multifaceted acting talent, I can hardly contain my excitement for his upcoming movie “The Penguin Lessons”. The trailer alone has left me eagerly awaiting April 18, 2025, when this British dramedy will grace the big screens.


The initial trailer for Steve Coogan’s upcoming British comedy-drama, titled “The Penguin Lessons“, has been unveiled, setting the official release date.

In accordance with Tom Michell’s book, the forthcoming movie features Coogan portraying a disenchanted British man who lands a job in Argentina during a tumultuous time in the country’s history. However, his life undergoes a dramatic change when he saves a penguin from an oil-covered beach.

A new trailer for the film has now confirmed that it will arrive in UK cinemas on April 18, 2025.

In the trailer, Coogan’s character Tom reveals that he saved the penguin because he was “trying to impress a woman I wanted to sleep with”.

“And now he thinks he’s my friend,” he adds. “But he’s not my friend.”

Yet, it swiftly emerges that they possess an indestructible connection, which eventually triggers Tom’s personal and political realization.

Besides Jonathan Pryce, we also have Vivian El Jaber, Björn Gustafsson, Alfonsina Carrocio, and David Herrero as part of the ensemble cast.

In another development, Chris Coogan has been chosen for the role of journalist Brian Walden in the upcoming Channel 4 drama titled “Brian and Margaret“. His character will be seen engaging in a TV discussion with Margaret Thatcher, who is portrayed as Prime Minister.

The performer is additionally slated to appear in a true-to-life Irish play titled “Saipan“, which portrays the series of incidents preceding Ireland’s football World Cup initiative in 2002.

In a new portrayal, Coogan is set to depict Mick McCarthy, the Ireland manager whose heated verbal clash with team captain Roy Keane led to Keane’s expulsion from the team. This incident sparked a nationwide debate, with opinions split among the Irish public.

Additionally, Coogan is now part of the illustrious ensemble for the continuation of The Sandman in its second season on Netflix.

The Penguin Lessons arrives in UK cinemas on April 18, 2025.
