Steve Coogan’s comedy remake confirms UK cinema release date
As a long-time fan of both classic films and theatrical adaptations, I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming cinema release of Steve Coogan’s stage adaptation of “Dr Strangelove” next year! Growing up, this film was a staple in my household, and seeing it brought to life on stage by the brilliant minds behind “Veep” and with the inimitable talent of Steve Coogan is just an absolute dream come true.
Next year, the stage adaptation by Steve Coogan of the film “Dr Strangelove” will be shown in cinemas through National Theatre Live.
As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that the stage adaptation of the iconic Cold War satire film has made its grand entrance in the heart of London, specifically at the Noël Coward Theatre. This hilarious commentary on global politics is now playing and will continue to entertain us until next month. Don’t miss out on this unforgettable experience!
For those unable to secure tickets, they’ll get a chance to enjoy the play in cinemas globally starting from March 27, 2025.

The show is a jointly reworked version of the initial film, with Armando Iannucci, who created Veep, taking on a significant role in the adaptation process. Sean Foley is responsible for directing this production.
In the stage version, Coogan assumes several characters, similar to Peter Sellers in the initial Stanley Kubrick film. The remake features a cast including Giles Terera, John Hopkins, Oliver Alvin-Wilson, Penny Ashmore, Ben Deery, Richard Dempsey, Mabli Gwynne, Mark Hadfield, and Tony Jayawardena alongside Coogan.
The film titled “Dr Strangelove” premiered in 1964, and it portrays the escalating tension between the United States and the Soviet Union over nuclear weapons. A maverick general issues an unauthorized attack on the Soviet Union, prompting the U.S. President and his team to prevent a potential catastrophic nuclear conflict.
Besides the show, another stage production is scheduled for a cinema release next year. Specifically, Ncuti Gatwa’s adaptation of “The Importance of Being Earnest” at the National Theatre will be shown on the big screen in February.
The Oscar Wilde adaptation also stars Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again‘s Hugh Skinner, Doctor Who‘s Sharon D Clarke and Ronkẹ Adékọluẹ́jọ́, and Little Women’s Eliza Scanlen.
The narrative centers around two companions assuming fake personas as they attempt to win over two ladies, only to find themselves ensnared in a tangle of deceit.
The show itself has just opened on the London stage, and will also run until January before its cinema release date.
The classic film “Dr. Strangelove” is being shown at the Noël Coward Theatre in London until January 25, 2025. It’s also set to hit movie theaters globally on March 27, 2025.
