Steve Carell Returns To Comedy With Hilarious New HBO Show Rooster

Steve Carell, best known for his role in the hit show The Office, is returning to television comedy after 15 years with a new HBO series called Rooster. He plays a very protective father dealing with his daughter’s difficult breakup, and also a popular author who writes steamy novels.

Steve Carell is known for his comedic talent, and his most popular work often highlights that. However, in the last ten years, he’s taken on more serious roles in television. Aside from the short-lived Netflix series Space Force, he hasn’t done a purely comedic TV role since his time playing Michael Scott.

Steve Carell has a natural talent for dramatic roles, as shown in his early performance as the troubled Uncle Frank in Little Miss Sunshine. However, many fans love his comedic side, so it’s wonderful to see him fully embrace humor again in Rooster.

Rooster Will Feature Steve Carell’s Funniest Role Since The Office

Just like his most memorable scenes in The Office, the trailer for Rooster shows that Steve Carell’s unique comedic talent is going to make this new HBO series really funny. The show centers around Carell’s character, who takes a job on campus to protect his daughter after her work is put at risk when she breaks up with a colleague.

Not only is he too involved in his daughter’s life, but he’s also a well-known author whose scandalous books deeply embarrass her. Ironically, he’s become something of a hero to the male students at her school.

This movie brings to mind Michael Scott’s Threat Level Midnight, and it seems Steve Carell intentionally taps into that same comedic energy from his seven seasons on The Office. His character, Rooster, is silly, has good intentions, is often embarrassing, and isn’t very insightful. It really feels like we’re seeing the Steve Carell from The Office at his best again.

Steve Carell Has Been More Successful In Dramatic Roles During The Last Decade

While Steve Carell hasn’t completely left TV comedy since The Office, it’s an exaggeration to say he’s done none. Over the last 15 years, most of his TV roles have included some humor. However, aside from Space Force, he’s largely appeared in shows that are much more serious, including satirical pieces, suspenseful thrillers, and emotionally powerful dramas.

Steve Carell has recently taken on more serious acting roles in shows like The Morning Show, The Patient, The Four Seasons, and Mountainhead. While these series have seen different degrees of success, they all showcase Carell’s ability to handle dramatic parts – something he was always known for. He’s now proving his range and tackling these kinds of roles.

What To Expect From Rooster On HBO

Steve Carell and Phil Dunster, known from Ted Lasso, both star in Rooster, a new show created by Bill Lawrence, who also co-created Ted Lasso. In Rooster, Dunster plays the partner of the main character’s daughter, but their relationship is complicated by an affair with a university student. The show’s trailer suggests that Dunster and Carell’s characters will have a tense and difficult relationship.

The show’s humor will mainly come from the awkwardness of Steve Carell’s character attending his daughter’s workplace to teach classes on his very successful, but quite scandalous, novels. While it’s still uncertain how well the show, Rooster, will be received overall, early indications are positive.
