Steve Carell and John Krasinski surprise cast of The Office spin-off with gesture that left them ‘fainting’

During the initial day of shooting for the spin-off series The Paper, there were surprise appearances by Steve Carell and John Krasinski, who are known for their roles in the original show, The Office.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, actress Sabrina Impacciatore reminisced about a particularly impactful event, sharing that it left her “feeling faint.

The 57-year-old actor from White Lotus made an appearance at Universal Studios lot in Los Angeles to express their good wishes.

Sabrina explained that they were not wearing any makeup, feeling incredibly nervous – almost to the point of being terrified. Suddenly, they heard a knock at the door. To their surprise, it was Steve Carell and John Krasinski who had entered the trailer!

‘We’re fainting. Like, what? Can you imagine? Isn’t it crazy? The first day of shooting!’

In the popular NBC sitcom, Steve, aged 63, and John, aged 45, portrayed the characters of Michael Scott and Jim Halpert respectively.

It emerged that while working on an advertisement for the Italian coffee company Lavazza, Steve and John found themselves appearing on the set of The Paper.

Sabrina expressed her thoughts on the pleasant occurrence as follows: “I considered it a fortunate event. The coffee in question happens to be Italian, a beverage I’ve enjoyed throughout my entire life.

Additionally, she disclosed to the media outlet that prior to playing the role of Esmeralda Grand in The Paper, a newspaper editor character, she had already seen The Office.

The actress developed a strong fondness for the show, eventually expressing her admiration to the creator Greg Daniels that she considered Steve one of the most remarkable artists she had ever encountered on Earth.

In the end, the woman originally from Italy decided to take action herself by boarding a plane from Rome to New York City in order to witness Steve in his Broadway performance of Uncle Vanya, scheduled for 2024.

The woman with dark hair clarified, ‘I purchased a ticket for a flight. I attended the performance. I visited the backstage area. I was patient there, waiting for him.’

As he stepped outside, I couldn’t help but feel nervous. I introduced myself, “Hi, I’m Sabrina! Could you possibly give me your blessing?” I really needed his blessing for something important (The Paper). He was just the kindest person.

And the performer remembered Carell being ‘warm’ and ‘encouraging’ during their first encounter. 

The seasoned entertainer gave her a bit of a pep talk. 

Sabrina expressed that he told her, “These folks are exceptional. You’re in for an incredible time. You’ll do wonderfully,” boosting her self-assurance.

She expressed her gratitude for the interaction, stating firmly, “I will always remember that. Absolutely. It was truly the right decision.

For seven seasons between 2005 and 2011, Steven played a major role in The Office. In contrast, John graced every single one of the show’s nine seasons, concluding with the series finale in 2013.

The Paper will land on Peacock on September 4, with all ten episodes premiering at once.
