Steps singer Lee Latchford-Evans announced that he and his wife, Kerry-Lucy, welcomed their second child.
The 51-year-old singer shared the happy news on Instagram Saturday, posting a black and white photo of himself leaving the hospital with their new baby.
The couple, married since 2012 and parents to four-year-old Leo, experienced a previous miscarriage, which was very difficult for them.
Oh my gosh, you won’t BELIEVE what Lee Latchford-Evans from Steps went through! Back in 2021, he and his wife, Kerry-Lucy, bravely shared the whole story of Leo’s birth, and it was just…so traumatic. I was absolutely heartbroken hearing about it, and I’m so glad they felt comfortable enough to talk about it. It really showed how strong they are as a family.
Their son was positioned feet-first, which meant Kerry-Lucy had to have a C-section, the couple explained.
The actress also experienced pre-eclampsia, a pregnancy complication that causes high blood pressure.
Kerry-Lucy shared with OK! Magazine that she was also frightened during her C-section when the anesthesia didn’t work at first. She needed more medication and an epidural before doctors could proceed with the operation.
Kerry-Lucy described the operation, saying that the curtains were lowered a bit so she could see the patient being lifted out. She found the sight of the small child incredibly moving.
Lee suddenly had to take on full childcare responsibilities when Kerry was ordered to stay in bed and rest after her surgery.
Lee explained that his wife, Kerry, is naturally caring and enjoys helping others. It was difficult for her being unable to assist when their baby needed it, as she was eager to be involved. Now that she’s able to hold and move around more easily, they’re working well together as parents.
The couple shared that they cherish their son even more after experiencing the heartbreak of a miscarriage. Lee explained that having gone through both the joy of having a child and the pain of loss, they feel incredibly grateful for their little one.
In April 2021, the couple happily announced they were expecting a baby, following a previous miscarriage that had been very difficult for them.
Lee recently shared with OK! magazine how difficult it was when friends and family announced their own pregnancies. They’d been trying for a baby for a long time and started to question what was happening with them, even wondering if something was wrong with either of them. Thankfully, their strong relationship helped them through those tough moments.
There was a period when it seemed like everyone we knew was having babies, and honestly, it bothered us. Seeing pregnant friends and babies everywhere made us feel resentful, which we knew wasn’t fair, but it was a tough and frustrating time.
Kerry-Lucy shared on Loose Women that she needed to take three pregnancy tests before her husband believed she was pregnant with their first child.
She explained that it took three pregnancy tests to convince Lee. The first test had a very faint positive line, but when she told him she thought she was pregnant, he didn’t believe her. She took a second test, which showed a clear positive result, but he still wasn’t convinced.
Lee explained that he was skeptical at first, but Kerry confirmed the result with a digital test, which was undeniable. He added that everything seems to be progressing well so far.
He also talked about sharing the news with his Steps bandmates – Claire Richards, Ian ‘H’ Watkins, Faye Tozer, and Lisa Scott Lee.
He remembered how great it felt to share the news. They were having a video call on Zoom to discuss future plans, and he told them he’d be occupied with something, then showed them the scan.
‘They were crying with tears of joy. There was so much going on – I filmed it to show to Kelly.’
