Stephen Webb breaks down in tears on Celebs Go Dating as he shares fears of being 'abandoned' following his brother's tragic death and difficult childhood

As a dedicated follower who has witnessed Stephen Webb’s heart-wrenching journey through the lens of reality television, I can’t help but feel a profound sense of empathy for this resilient soul. His life experiences have been nothing short of tumultuous, from the painful abandonment by his father to the tragic loss of his brother, and the subsequent dissolution of his marriage.

During the Thursday episode of Celebs Go Dating, Stephen Webb choked up while discussing the heart-wrenching details of his personal family situation.

The Gogglebox star, 53, was left in tears as he shared his fears of being ‘abandoned‘ in relationships after his father left his mother when he was young.

Following his childhood years spent with his mom, brother, and three siblings, the unfortunate incident occurred where Stephen’s brother, Paul, passed away at the age of 32 due to an overdose from heroin.

As a lifestyle guide, I’d like to share a personal experience that might resonate with some of you. When my first significant relationship ended, I found myself overwhelmed by feelings of loneliness and abandonment. This is a testament to the profound impact relationships can have on our lives.

Delving into his childhood he began: ‘My dad left my mum on her own to bring up us five kids.’

In response to Paul Carrick Brunson asking if he felt pressure when his father departed, Stephen said, ‘A lot’ or simply, ‘Yes, a great deal.’

He added: ‘And especially at the age of around 30 my brother passed away and that meant I was the only boy with three sisters.

‘I felt a lot like I was doing my dad’s job.’

Stephen will be the main focus on the Channel 4 dating program following the end of his six-year marriage to Daniel Lustig, a former co-star from their time together on Gogglebox.

In terms of our relationship ending, he shared that he needs to come to terms with what transpired between us and Dan, and is currently navigating this process.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’ve been gradually stepping away from something for more than a year now. It no longer resonates with me. The desire to experience something fresh and exhilarating has grown too strong. Life seems to be moving at an accelerated pace, and I yearn for a new journey.

Earlier, Stephen discussed his separation with The Sun, mentioning that they touched upon it in the series. Both parties had essentially stopped putting effort into making it work.

‘The longer you leave it, the more it deteriorates to a point where there’s no going back.

I strongly feel that life revolves around transformation, and I’m eagerly anticipating the upcoming phase in my journey.

In the latest installment, airing on Thursday, Stephen faced backlash from viewers who deemed him as ‘creepy’ and ‘inappropriate’ following his lewd remarks during his date.

53-year-old TV host left his fans astonished as he opted for a date with 22-year-old soccer player Ben on Monday.

In Tuesday’s show, they shared drinks with the intention of getting acquainted. Yet, things didn’t go smoothly as Ben mentioned he wasn’t feeling good at the outset.

Things failed to turn around as Stephen asked Ben about his favourite position to play in football, to which the TV star asked: ‘Doggy?’

Following an uncomfortable pause, Stephen commented: “Aren’t you rather plain-spoken? I prefer things to be more reserved.” (Note that this paraphrase attempts to soften the original statement while maintaining its intended meaning.)

As Ben shared his story about coming out at 18 and the challenges he faced in a football setting, the discussion seemed to grow more genuine. However, Stephen feigned a yawn and remarked sarcastically that Ben required a diaper change when he briefly left for the restroom.
