Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss’ widow Allison reveals she found out a ‘triggering’ discovery just before his funeral
In an open disclosure, Allison Holker, the wife of late Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss, shared that her husband’s childhood sexual abuse was a contributing factor to his addiction struggles, ultimately leading to his tragic suicide at the age of 40 in December 2022.
The 36-year-old dancer, currently in a relationship with Adam Edmunds and visible on Instagram, shared honestly about discovering her late husband’s struggle with drugs during the arrangements for his funeral.
Known primarily for his work as a disc jockey on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Boss tragically took his own life with a firearm at a Los Angeles motel when he was 40 years old, in the year 2022.
In an interview with People Magazine, published on Tuesday, I revealed that I discovered a trove of various drugs – mushrooms, pills, and other unidentified items that required me to consult my mobile phone for clarification – stashed away in his shoeboxes.
Holker stated that he was with a very close friend of his, and they were both tidying up a closet and selecting an appropriate attire for the funeral.
For me, it was a highly disturbing experience as I stumbled upon numerous items in our closet that I hadn’t been aware of before. Discovering the extent of activities occurring without my knowledge was incredibly shocking.
‘Discovering that truth was quite terrifying for me, yet it also allowed me to understand the depths of his struggles and the hidden aspects he concealed. I suspect there was a great deal of embarrassment or shame associated with it.’
Afterward, she delved into his diaries seeking understanding, and there uncovered a distressing truth – a secret so deeply concealed, not even his closest confidants knew about it. As she perused the pages, she discovered hints suggesting he had been sexually abused by a male figure during his childhood, a fact alluded to in numerous entries.
As a lifestyle expert, I can empathize with someone grappling with inner turmoil, desperately seeking ways to alleviate these feelings without burdening others due to an overwhelming love for them. In simpler terms, when faced with deep emotional struggles, some people may resort to self-medication and isolation as a means of coping, fearing the potential impact on those they care about deeply.
‘He didn’t want other people to take on his pain.’
At first, the dancer felt deceived by his hidden truths, but as time passed, her viewpoint evolved.
Delving into Stephen’s personal diaries and tracing his footsteps by revisiting the books he annotated, I found myself gaining a profound insight into his life’s journey and the battles he fought within himself.
His situation stirred up a great deal of compassion within me, along with sorrow over the suffering he endured.
Holker and Boss share three children together: Weslie, 16, Maddox, 8, and Zaia, 5.
On the day he disappeared, Boss had taken their oldest child Weslie (the person who saw him last before he vanished) to school. His parting words to her were: “If only I could be your superhero.
Holker shared that their teenage child is still attending the same school, and they noted how difficult it can be to fully comprehend serious statements made in the moment, particularly for someone of that age.
She manages it with a much greater poise than expected, given the circumstances. We’ve made every effort to assist, engage, and ensure she feels acknowledged and understood.
She seems to find those words both beautiful and repulsive at times. This internal conflict is something she may never fully resolve, but her ability to understand both perspectives suggests a deep understanding of their complexities.
Holker will soon publish her heartfelt memoir entitled “This Far: My Journey of Love, Grief, and Discovering the Light,” scheduled to hit shelves on February 4th.
Months later, she disclosed her emotional experiences living in their matrimonial house following his devastating suicide, as well as the reason she eventually chose to sell the premises.
Holker was left struggling when her world crumbled, as she faced the challenge of rebuilding and raising their kids on her own.
Now, she’s shared deeply personal insights about life within their home following his passing, which took place at a motel that was a short 15-minute stroll from there.
On the SoFi podcast Richer Lives, I shared my perspective about our family home: It wasn’t just a place to live; it felt like a comforting security blanket that we held dear. However, as time passed, the emotions connected to this house started to envelop us, almost as if they were consuming us bit by bit.
She mentioned, “For a very extended period, that house served as our comforting sanctuary. We cherished that home deeply. It consistently provided a sense of safety and comfort to us.
However, things changed course, and following the grief, many choose not to discuss this aspect. The professional dancer revealed that they had been clinging onto old feelings, believing it offered protection, but instead, it was consuming us.
Indeed, making such a significant decision to move my children was a massive dilemma. After all, their lives had already undergone considerable changes. I found myself questioning whether it was fair for me to bring about another transformation in their lives.
Yet, she discovered that departing from the house served as a beneficial choice for us, as our departure led us to purchase a new dwelling, which ultimately transformed into our safe haven. This move seemed like the culmination of our journey, enabling us to leave our past behind and step forward together. In essence, it symbolized liberation for us.
In my personal experience, moving into our latest abode has transformed it into a sanctuary where we’ve been able to seek peace, craft cherished moments, and embark on fresh journeys. It’s as if an unseen burden has been alleviated from each of us, leaving us feeling lighter and more hopeful.
In 2019, they (she and tWitch) bought a house located in the Los Angeles suburb of Encino for $2.7 million. Later, in November 2023, she sold it on her own for $3.525 million.
2018 saw the construction of this residence, boasting six spacious bedrooms and 6.5 stylish bathrooms. The interior design, a joint effort between the homeowners and Pottery Barn, exudes elegance.
After revealing details about her grieving journey recently, it was made known last month that Allison intends to release a memoir titled “This Far” in February.
Last month, she announced her new relationship with Adam Edmunds, who is the head of a tech-centric real estate management business called Entrata.
At the Alice + Olivia Spring 2025 fashion show during New York Fashion Week, they publicly confirmed their relationship by appearing together on the red carpet.
2010 marked the beginning of our romantic journey, and we exchanged vows in 2013, a year before I embarked on my cherished role as a popular DJ on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
In his family, he took up the role of father to Weslie, who is currently 16 years old, from a prior relationship. Alongside this, the duo welcomed two kids into their family as well – Maddox, aged 8, and Zaia, age 4.
In December 2022, he strolled over to the Oak Tree Inn, located in the Los Angeles suburb of Encino, a mere 15-minute walk from his residence, and took his own life there.
The next morning, a maid found him dead in a bloody bathtub at the motel where he had checked in the day before, causing her great alarm.
Or:
In the morning following his arrival at the motel, a startled maid stumbled upon him deceased and immersed in a pool of blood inside the bathtub, causing her distress.
Both sentences convey the same information but aim to make it more readable and natural for English speakers.
The unexpected suicide of the boss led to a worldwide display of sorrow from fans, and Holker received numerous expressions of sympathy.
In the weeks leading up to their passing, Boss and Holker publicly expressed on The Jennifer Hudson Show their wish for another child.
In December, Holker penned a heartfelt Instagram message marking two significant occasions – it would have been their 10th wedding anniversary with Boss, followed by the third anniversary of his passing, which occurred three days later.
‘Grief continues, yet each period of hardship eventually passes. Keep holding on and keep moving, even if that means dancing, was her message.’
In the next month, she disclosed on Nick Viall’s podcast The Viall Files that she was considering the prospect of going out with someone new, expressing her readiness for dating once more.
She shared, “It took quite an effort for me to relearn how to appreciate myself and to cultivate self-love once more…it was a rather intricate predicament I found myself navigating.
After much deliberation, I found it challenging to embrace all those intricacies and complications. However, in the end, I can’t help but appreciate the beauty of existence.
When the topic of a potential suitor was brought up, she responded: ‘I wouldn’t avoid it; no, not at all. As for actively seeking it, I’m undecided…but I can assure you I won’t be avoiding it either.’
