Stephen Mulhern Tears Up After Heartbreaking Year of Loss and Health Battles

Stephen Mulhern openly shared that he shed tears during the making of The Accidental Tourist, a fresh travel series, after enduring a challenging year.

2024 found me grappling with more than just a broken heart after the passing of my dear father, Christopher. My own health became a challenge as well, culminating in a harrowing incident where I collapsed at a Pizza Express and needed immediate medical attention. As a lifestyle expert, I know all too well now the importance of taking care of both mental and physical well-being.

The fresh ITV program features Stephen being taken by his buddies Ant McPartlin (age 49) and Declan Donnelly (also 49), to South Korea, where they challenge him to try foods he dislikes as a way to step outside his comfort zone. This show was recorded not long after the passing of Stephen’s father.

Stephen mentioned to the Daily Mirror: “I’ve never shown tears on TV before, but it felt good to step out from predefined formats, something I haven’t done before. This time, viewers will get a peek beyond the glitz and glamour if they choose to watch.

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but boast about the host of The Catchphrase, who takes great pride in himself for gracing our screens after three long years of convincing. Yet, despite his triumph, he expresses deep regret that his father wasn’t here to witness his journey on the show.

In a heartfelt confession, Stephen shared: ‘Sadly, my father has recently passed away, and that’s all that matters to me right now. I’m deeply saddened that he wasn’t able to witness the event.’

He added: “For over two decades, folks have recognized me through television, yet they might wonder, ‘What’s he like in his personal life? Does he have a partner? This is all about me, and it’s quite unsettling.’

They continuously shoot footage, capturing everything in sight. From my perspective, the end product will be filled with raw emotions. Expect to witness me stepping far outside my usual comfort zone.

In November, it was reported that Christopher, Stephen’s father, had sadly passed away. A representative for the celebrity shared: “Stephen has been going through an extremely challenging period these last few weeks.

‘Lately, his dad’s passing has left a significant impact on him, causing him great distress.’

Stephen hails from the eastern part of London, born in 1977. His parents, Christopher and Maureen, were busy as market vendors during that time.

The celebrity attributes his achievements to his parents, explaining: “I don’t want to come off as sentimental, but they put in an extraordinary amount of effort to raise me and my three siblings.

Growing up with his four other siblings, he developed his social abilities while helping out at his father’s street vendor stand. Later in life, he followed his passion for magic and began his professional journey.

Right after Stephen suddenly fell ill at a Pizza Express restaurant, not long after undergoing an unspecified medical treatment earlier that day, I found myself rushing him to the hospital. As a die-hard fan, I was deeply concerned and did everything I could to help.

After paramedics helped him, he was put on the phone to his mother to assure her that he was OK.

According to a source, Stephen has been experiencing a particularly difficult period lately. He’s deeply mourning the passing of his father, who held a very special place in his heart.

Additionally, he has been dealing with multiple health issues that are well-known, and this past Wednesday morning underwent a treatment needing a local anesthetic.

That night, he opted for a peaceful, individual dining experience, had a couple of beverages, but unfortunately reacted in an extremely unfavorable manner. Being human, the recent passing of his father has been particularly difficult for him.

Initially, Stephen raised worries when he abruptly withdrew from Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway in April 2024 due to falling ill.

It’s said that he informed the producers during the Saturday morning filming session that he wasn’t prepared to perform in the show that night because he wasn’t feeling well.

During his absence from the show, details about his illness were not disclosed, however, a reliable source informed The Sun on Sunday that: ‘Stephen had been scheduled for a brief segment of the show, but unfortunately, he wasn’t well enough to participate.’

On Saturday morning, finding himself not feeling well enough to attend, he made an early call to inform the team that he wouldn’t be able to make it.

‘They were able to rejig the format and make it work without him.’

Stephen, too, has experienced tension related to one of his rental properties due to tenants alleging that they’ve endured dampness and mold issues for quite some time.

In a situation where complaints went unaddressed for two to three years, the property owner, who runs a £4 million business, was compelled to extend an apology to the tenants residing in that property as they expressed feelings of resentment and disconnection.

Stephen experienced another setback when the popular ITV show In For A Penny was cancelled, as reported by The Mirror. This unexpected move means the much-loved Saturday night game show has been put on hold after six seasons, but the bosses haven’t definitively ruled it out and hinted that it might only be a temporary pause.

According to an ITV insider, while Stephen is engrossed in shooting other ventures during the summer, the show “In For A Penny” remains a cherished format for ITV.

Hold onto your change for now, because the team might soon appear in your hometown, inviting more people to join in on their extraordinary and zany games in the days ahead!
