Stephen King Raises Reasonable Concerns Over Pluribus’ Apple TV Future

Stephen King has expressed worries about the future of the Apple TV+ series Pluribus, and it’s easy to see why he’s concerned.

Even though Pluribus takes its time building the story and leaves viewers with a lot of questions after the first season, it’s become Apple TV+’s biggest hit. It’s also received incredible reviews, earning a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While everyone is excited for the next season, the show is already facing potential difficulties ahead.

Stephen King recently suggested on social media that the future of the Apple TV sci-fi show Pluribus might be in jeopardy, based on plans from its creator, Vince Gilligan.

Stephen King Wants Pluribus Season 2 To Come Out As Soon As Possible (& He’s Right)

Stephen King shared his worries on X (formerly Twitter) after finding out Vince Gilligan isn’t planning to begin work on season two of Pluribus anytime soon.

Stephen King has a good point. With how long it takes for shows to return these days, many people worry they won’t even get to see a series finish. Some shows have gaps of four or five years between seasons, which can test viewers’ patience and make them question if the extended wait is worthwhile.

It’s understandable that Vince Gilligan wants to take his time with the next season of Pluribus – he clearly prioritizes quality over rushing production. However, even a great show can suffer if there are long gaps between seasons, no matter how much fans enjoy what they eventually receive.

Extended Gaps Between Seasons Can Seriously Harm Shows Like Pluribus

The first season of Pluribus unfolds gradually, hinting at a much larger story to come. Creator Vince Gilligan envisions the Apple TV sci-fi series spanning four seasons, which feels right after the initial season. However, a lengthy delay for season 2 could risk losing viewers’ interest.

I appreciated the deliberate pace of Pluribus, but I have to admit the first season didn’t really capture my attention.

The first season of Pluribus expertly sets up the show’s future direction, but it leaves the biggest reveals for later. This means season 2 has a great chance to build on that strong start with a timely release. However, if it doesn’t deliver, it risks losing the positive impression created by season 1 and, as Stephen King pointed out, potentially alienating a lot of viewers.
