Stephen Graham’s “unflinching” one-shot crime drama gets first-look trailer ahead of Netflix release
Stephen Graham is working again with “Boiling Point” director Philip Barantini for the one-shot Netflix series titled “Adolescence“. A sneak peek of the show has recently been unveiled in the form of its first official trailer.
The presentation begins by detailing the apprehension of 13-year-old Jamie Miller (played by Owen Cooper), suspected of a gruesome crime: the murder of a fellow schoolmate. As Jamie maintains his innocence, his father Eddie is plunged into turmoil, doubting whether his son could truly be capable of such an act.
The initial scene of the forthcoming Netflix series, airing on March 13, starts by depicting the chaotic scenes of Jamie’s unexpected arrest at the break of dawn, what should have been an unremarkable day.
The parents of Jamie, Eddie and Manda (Christine Tremarco), find themselves bewildered and petrified when a group of armed police officers forcefully enter their home, making their way towards Jamie’s room.
The video further presents the investigating detectives, DI Luke Bascombe (portrayed by Ashley Walters from “Top Boy”) and DS Misha Frank (Faye Marsay, known for her role in “Game of Thrones”). They are seen interrogating Jamie concerning his connection with the victim, all while Eddie and the family’s legal representative are present.
The role of Briony Ariston, a clinical psychologist, is played by Erin Doherty in this production. She has been assigned to work on Jamie’s case.
The climax of the trailer becomes increasingly intense, culminating in Jamie losing his temper and shouting angrily at Briony, although the sound is slightly blurred.
Written collaboratively by Graham and Jack Thorne, the work titled “Adolescence” explores the subject of harmful masculinity among teenage boys. A particularly unsettling moment involves Bascombe’s son discussing the “manosphere” and related incel viewpoints with his father.
The production is anticipated to hold viewers captivated, not only due to its profound examination of childhood and adulthood experiences, but also because of its unique cinematic approach.
In Barantini’s work, much like how it is done in the series ‘Boiling Point’, a single uninterrupted camera shot method is employed throughout each hour-long episode, capturing the story as it progresses in real-time.
Adolescence will be streaming on Netflix from March 13.
