Stephen Graham’s new thriller, The Good Boy, is full of memorable – and often disturbing – scenes, which is why we gave it a five-star review and called it captivating. But one particular detail stands out, simply because it’s something you don’t often see in movies.
In the beginning of the story, when the new housekeeper, Rina, arrives earlier than expected, we see Graham’s character, Chris, quickly put on a wig before answering the door. This could suggest he’s concerned with appearances, or that he’s concealing something – especially considering he’s secretly keeping a young woman chained up in his basement.
I recently learned something really cool about The Good Boy! Apparently, there was a detail in the show that wasn’t even in the original script. It turns out the idea came from Graham Norton’s son, Alfie! He showed Graham videos of younger men wearing wigs because they were losing their hair, and Graham thought it would be a funny addition to the show. He told Digital Spy all about it – it’s such a fun little detail and a great story!

He and I talked at length about his desire to stay young for his wife. He wants to maintain the same appearance he had when they first met, fearing she might stop loving him if he ages.
I have to thank Tommy, my barber. When I told him about the idea, he said he actually does quite a few similar things and that it’s really popular. He showed me how it’s done and even did it for me as a test. I then told Jan Komasa that I wanted to have a wig made for the project, and I was willing to cover the cost myself if it wasn’t already in the budget, because I really thought it would be a fantastic addition.

We had a scene where the character was shaving and looking in the mirror—that’s been done before. I’ve seen characters question themselves in the mirror, but what was unique here was when he took off his wig and decided to use a dummy head instead. I thought it was a fantastic idea and immediately said, ‘Let’s film that!’
Something you might notice if you’ve seen The Good Boy is that this new project also really focuses on a young man and what he’s up to. It’s definitely a different take than Adolescence, but when you add in Animol which is coming soon, it makes me think Graham is starting to pick roles that have a similar theme. I’m really curious to see where he goes with that!
Graham told Digital Spy that director Jan Komasa first contacted him even before the movie Adolescence was conceived. He explained that he bases his decisions on three things: the quality of the script, the director’s vision, and the strength of the cast.

I’m always looking for roles that push me as an actor, and I’m grateful I’m currently having a successful period. It’s really rewarding to collaborate with up-and-coming talents like Owen Cooper and Kit Rakusen. I strongly believe in sharing your knowledge and experience to help others grow.
As a gamer, I always feel like I’ve picked up a ton of strategies and tricks over the years. If I can share that with newer players and help them improve, I definitely feel like it’s my responsibility to do so. I recently had an amazing opportunity – I got to work with Tom Hanks! It was like a three-week masterclass, a real learning experience for me, and I feel incredibly lucky to have been a part of it.
I’m always learning, and I see every day as a chance to grow. I pick up new skills and information constantly, and I try to share that knowledge with my colleagues.
