Stephen Graham’s masterpiece crime drama jumps back into Netflix’s top 10 after major milestone

Stephen Graham’s critically acclaimed crime drama, *Adolescence*, is gaining popularity on Netflix again after a successful night at the Emmy Awards. The four-episode series won six awards on Sunday, September 14th, and has become one of Netflix’s most-watched English-language shows ever – currently ranking as number two.

Russell T Davies’ drama, co-written by Jack Thorne and starring Graham, received three Emmy Awards. Graham won the award for Outstanding Lead Actor, and the series, *Adolescence*, was recognized as Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series. Newcomer Owen Cooper also made Emmy history by winning the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor.

Recently, there’s been a lot of new interest in the series Adolescence, which has led more people to start watching it. It’s currently back in the top 10 on Netflix in the UK, at number nine.

What to Read Next

When Digital Spy reviewed Adolescence in March, they gave it a five-star rating and called it the best new show of the year so far. They also praised it as a fantastic achievement and a prime example of quality British drama.

Our review highlighted that Stephen Graham delivers a phenomenal performance in this drama, solidifying his status as one of the UK’s most talented actors.

The third episode is particularly notable for being a captivating, almost entirely self-contained conversation between Jamie (played by Cooper) and his therapist, Briony Ariston (Erin Doherty). Filmed in an impressive single shot, it stands out as a remarkable piece of television that many viewers will find impossible to stop watching.

We strongly recommend checking out *Adolescence* if you haven’t already. It’s trending again and continuing to spark important discussions after its release on the streaming platform.

So, I just finished watching something with Stephen Graham and wow, he was amazing! If you’ve already seen it and, like me, you want to check out more of his awesome work, I’ve got some recommendations for other great shows he’s been in.

Stephen Graham’s best TV dramas, and where you can watch them right now

With dramas like *Accused*, now on Netflix, and *Adolescence* gaining popularity with viewers, we’ve put together a list of Stephen Graham’s best work that you won’t want to miss.

This Is England

This TV series is a continuation of the 2006 British film by Shane Meadows. It follows the characters at three different points in time, starting in 1986 – three years after the film’s story ended.

The cast of *This Is England* also included Joe Gilgun (known for *Brassic*), Vicky McClure (*Line of Duty*), and Michael Socha (*Showtrial*). The story centers around a group of young skinheads. We consider *This Is England* one of the best British films of the last 25 years, and the mini-series is currently available to stream on Channel 4.

Help

Written by Jack Thorne, who again teamed up with Stephen Graham, *Help* was a powerful, feature-length drama on Channel 4. It was set in a care home during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jodie Comer played a caregiver who formed a close bond with Tony, a resident with early-onset Alzheimer’s who had no visitors. The show, *Help*, was described as one of the most powerfully moving television dramas ever made.

Time

The BBC’s drama *Time* is another emotionally challenging, yet unforgettable, show. Created by Jimmy McGovern, the first season takes place in a Liverpool prison and features Sean Bean and Stephen Graham. Bean plays Mark Cobden, a man recently sent to prison for the first time, and Graham portrays Eric McNally, a seasoned prison guard.

Okay, so I checked out *Time* after seeing a four-star review on Digital Spy, and honestly, the acting is amazing – totally worth the watch just for that. But it’s also one of those shows that really makes you think about stuff, you know? It’s a bit of a tough watch, super frustrating at times, but apparently, that’s exactly what it’s *supposed* to do.

Time is available on BBC iPlayer.

The Virtues

Another drama from Jack Thorne appears on the list – and for good reason, his work is consistently excellent. This time, it’s *The Virtues*, which he co-wrote with Shane Meadows, known for *This Is England*. The two have collaborated on projects before.

In this four-part drama, Stephen Graham plays Joseph, a man grappling with a troubled past. He journeys to Ireland seeking his long-lost sister, and along the way, begins to uncover and understand the memories of his childhood. You can watch it on Channel 4.

Adolescence is available to stream on Netflix.
