Following their success at the Emmys, where they won six awards, the creators of Adolescence have announced they’re planning a follow-up story.
Stephen Graham, age 52 and the mind behind the popular Netflix series, has revealed discussions are happening about a potential second season. This could bring back Ashley Walters as the police officer he played in the first season.
The actor from Liverpool played Eddie Miller in the acclaimed drama, a father whose son, Jamie, is accused of murder at school.
He recently told the Daily Mail that they’re currently exploring ideas for a new project. He emphasized the need for secrecy while discussions are ongoing, and confirmed they are considering filming the entire project in one continuous take.
Graham and Hannah Walters, through their production company Matriarch Productions, will be heading up the new drama. They’re partnering with Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B, for the project.
Unfortunately, viewers won’t find out more about Jamie’s involvement in the events or his father Eddie’s declining mental health, as the writer has decided against continuing the story with the Miller family.

Owen Cooper, the 15-year-old who made history as the youngest male Emmy winner on Sunday, won’t be attending, and neither will Christine Tremarco, who played his on-screen mother, Manda.
Graham stated that this family will no longer be featured on the show, effectively ending their involvement. However, he confirmed that the show itself will continue, and the way it’s made will remain the same.
The actor known for his role in This Is England hinted that more characters could reappear in the upcoming sequel to Adolescence, and he especially praised Ashley Walters, 43, who played police detective DI Luke Bascombe.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve always believed in the power of opportunity, and that really shines through when you look at someone like Ashley. He’s incredibly talented – truly one of the best – but he’s been somewhat defined by a single role throughout his career. It just goes to show how important it is to create chances for people to stretch their abilities and show their full range. It’s all about giving someone the platform to really *become* something new.
Ashley is incredibly compelling when he performs, especially in this one. He really put his heart into it and it showed.
The four-part drama series was a major success at the Emmys, winning awards for Best Limited Series, directing, and writing. Stars Graham, Cooper, and Erin Doherty, who played child psychologist Briony Ariston, also received individual awards. Earlier this month, the series was recognized at the Creative Emmys, winning two awards for its casting and cinematography.
Okay, seriously, this show is EVERYTHING. It’s not just a drama, it’s like, a total cultural moment – everyone’s talking about what it says about guys these days and, honestly, the whole online world they’re growing up in. And get this – the actor, Cooper, was only FOURTEEN when they filmed it! And the craziest part? Each episode is done in ONE TAKE. Like, no cuts, no edits, just pure, raw performance. I’m completely obsessed, it’s groundbreaking!
Graham expressed how the eight gong Emmy success had inspired him to continue creating.

He explained that having the right team and shared belief in a common goal can make anything achievable.
Smiling, he admitted that he was humbled by all the trophies – not just his own.
As a longtime fan, I’ve always understood his creative process to be about balance. He’s explained it like this: everyone involved – the writers, the producers, and the actors – are equally vital. You can’t have one without the others; they all need each other to succeed. He calls it a ‘trifecta,’ and honestly, it’s a formula that clearly works wonders. It’s amazing to see how seamlessly everything comes together when all three elements are given equal weight.
Growing up, my mom constantly reminded me that everyone is equal – no one is better or worse than anyone else. I’m a mixed-race kid, and I grew up in a small apartment building in a town called Kirby.
I’ve definitely faced challenges and experienced both good and bad times, but I’ve found a sense of peace now, and I want to share that positivity with others. Does that make sense?
