Stephen Graham lands next movie role in “inspirational” real-life drama

Stephen Graham has been incredibly busy in 2025, with roles in A Thousand Blows, Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, and a lesser-known series called Adolescence. And he shows no signs of stopping anytime soon.

The well-known actor will be appearing in Ibelin, a movie based on the true story of Mats Steen, a man from Norway.

Steen had a muscle disease that made it difficult to do everyday things. As a result, he focused most of his energy on developing his World of Warcraft character, named Ibelin.

He also wrote a blog about his experiences living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, sharing details about his daily life with the condition.

After he died, he became a legend among players, and Blizzard, the game’s creators, immortalized him with a virtual gravestone inside the game.

According to Variety, Graham will star in the upcoming inspirational movie, joining Sir Anthony Hopkins, Charlie Plummer, Toni Collette, Isabela Merced, and Maisy Stella.

Morten Tyldum, the director of The Imitation Game, is helming the new film, working from a screenplay by Ilaria Bernardini and Hossein Amini.

I’m really excited because this movie isn’t just about Steen’s life, but also about the World of Warcraft community that rallied around him and his character in the game. It’s going to show both sides of the story – his family and the people who loved watching him play.

Steen’s life was the subject of a Netflix documentary called The Remarkable Life of Ibelin, which came out in October 2024.

The movie’s story was built using actual chat logs from the Ibelin guild in World of Warcraft, along with characters and other visual elements from the game.

The film received widespread praise, earning a 97% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on reviews from 60 critics.

Graham plans to build on the ideas from his book Adolescence in his new work, Letters to Our Sons.

The actor explained that after the success of his book, Adolescence, he recognized how important it is for fathers and sons to talk to each other. He believes this connection is even more difficult to achieve today than it used to be.

I’m eager to support initiatives that help fathers connect with their sons and keep the lines of communication open.
