Stephen Graham joins “raw” British drama from Top Boy’s Ashley Walters

Stephen Graham has joined a “raw” new British drama called Animol from Ashley Walters.

The upcoming movie, currently being filmed, signifies the first time as a feature director for the star of “Top Boy.” It delves into the lives within a Youth Correctional Facility.

The movie “Animol” is characterized as a deeply emotional, raw journey of growth set against tough circumstances, showcasing the strength of human spirit amidst hardship. This film has been penned by the renowned writer, Nick Love, who previously authored “The Football Factory”.

In a new role, Peaky Blinders actor Graham takes on the part of a welfare officer who assists young offenders. Additionally, Sharon Duncan-Brewster from Dune is expected to make an appearance, while Tut Nyuot and Vladyslav Baliuk will portray two teenagers within the prison setting.

According to Walters, Nick and I have collaborated previously and have long desired to produce something striking – a piece that incites discussion whilst showcasing aesthetic appeal.

The concept of Animol resonates strongly with me, as it delves into the heartfelt journey of staying true to oneself amidst societal pressures for conformity – one of life’s most significant hurdles.

Fundamentally, this narrative revolves around endurance and the sanctuary offered by genuine bonds. It’s not so much about the specifics (the ‘what’); it’s about the motivation behind it all (‘the why’). I can’t express enough my anticipation for bringing my first feature film to fruition with such an outstanding crew!

In their most recent joint project, Walters and Graham are set to star alongside each other in an upcoming Netflix crime series titled “Adolescence“.

Actor Walters, known for his role as Dushane Hill in “Top Boy,” has been quite occupied recently. He’s just been seen in the Netflix thriller titled “Missing You.

Besides his stardom, he’s currently penning down his debut book titled “Always Winning“. This memoir reminisces about his childhood and hardships, offering insights into the system of thoughts Walters employed to transform his life and steer it towards a more prosperous and contented journey.

Animol is yet to confirm a release date.
