Stephen Graham in first look at new East End drama from Steven Knight

As a hardcore gamer with a penchant for historical dramas and an eye for gritty realism, I can hardly contain my excitement over Disney+’s upcoming series, “A Thousand Blows.” With Steven Knight, the mastermind behind “Peaky Blinders,” at the helm, this six-part drama set in the treacherous world of 1880s London boxing rings promises to be a riveting tale.

In a fresh development, the upcoming Disney+ drama titled “A Thousand Blows,” masterminded by the creator of “Peaky Blinders” – Steven Knight, has unveiled some initial character snapshots featuring its cast members such as Stephen Graham, Malachi Kirby, and Erin Doherty.

A six-episode production, shot in the United Kingdom, takes place in the dangerous underworld of unlawful boxing during the 1880s Victorian era in London.

Freshly unveiled images depict Stephen Graham, a well-known British actor, engaging in boxing as Sugar Goodson, a skilled and potentially dangerous fighter. Notably, he’s currently filming for Netflix’s upcoming crime drama titled “Adolescence,” and also carries an executive producer credit on the film “A Thousand Blows.”

We’ve had an initial glimpse of Malachi Kirby, a BAFTA-winning actor known for his role in Steve McQueen’s BBC series Small Axe, playing Hezekiah Moscow. Born in Jamaica, he will portray a character who is drawn into the violence of London’s East End after the industrial revolution.

Via the bustling boxing community, Hezekiah encounters Erin Doherty, famed for her role in ‘The Crown’, who leads a notorious female London gang known as The Forty Elephants.

Hezekiah is set to face off against Sugar Goodson, leading to a fierce competition between them that extends beyond the confines of the boxing arena.

Steven Knight, the mastermind behind, writer, and executive producer, expressed that the passion and dedication poured into this captivating production shines brightly from the get-go. What adds even more intrigue to the narrative we present is its roots in the real-life stories of people who led extraordinary lives during exceptional times.

As a gamer immersed in the captivating world of A Thousand Blows, I’ve come to appreciate Knight’s brilliant storytelling that has shaped this series. However, it’s exciting to see fresh perspectives being added by a dynamic team of newcomers such as Ameir Brown, Insook Chappell, Harlan Davies, and Yasmin Joseph. Their contributions are certainly noteworthy and add depth and diversity to the narrative.

Hannah Walters, Francis Lovehall, James Nelson-Joyce, and Jason Tobin have been added to the cast list. They are known for their roles in “Boiling Point”, “Champion” on BBC, “Time”, and “Warrior”, respectively.

Production has wrapped on two series, and A Thousand Blows season one is coming to Disney+ in 2025.
