Stephen Graham and Ashley Walters’ triumphant British drama debuts with perfect Rotten Tomatoes score
The single-episode miniseries titled “Adolescence” by Netflix has recently been released, and it’s received an outstanding 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from its premiere.
Created jointly by Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne, this show narrates the story of 13-year-old Jamie Miller, portrayed by novice actor Owen Cooper, who finds himself under suspicion for the tragic death of a fellow student from his school.
The show features Graham in the role of Jamie’s father Eddie, with Ashley Walters from “Top Boy” portraying DI Luke Bascombe. This series has received outstanding praise and boasts a perfect 100% rating among critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
The four-episode series, directed by Philip Barantini (of “Boiling Point” fame), delves deep into the devastating impact of a horrific crime, offering raw and essential perspectives on the issue of gender-based violence.
As more reviews are coming in, let’s have a look at what critics are saying about Adolescence.
Digital Spy
Top-notch dramas have an unforgettable impact on you and inspire discussion, and that’s exactly what ‘Adolescence’ accomplishes.
Rolling Stone
This program is not light viewing… However, the powerful message and bold delivery of ‘Adolescence’ make it one of the most exceptional shows – and a strong candidate for the top spot – that you’ll watch on television screens this year.
The New York Times
This work employs suffering and astonishment as a means to explore intriguing queries and societal analyses. Despite being centered around a teenager, the themes it presents are mature in nature.
London Evening Standard
Disregarding the immense technical talent required for creating such a show, everyone featured in this series is simply fantastic.
The Daily Telegraph
“It is a drama so quietly devastating that I won’t forget it for a very long time.“
Collider
Teenage years, depicted in this series, aren’t merely entertaining (they can be, oddly enough), but they rank among the most significant shows I’ve watched in a while.
The Hollywood Reporter
Thankfully, the cinematography generally enhances not only a gripping story that echoes today’s unease but also the brilliant performances delivered by actors such as Stephen Graham, Ashley Walters, Erin Doherty, and the remarkable new talent, Owen Cooper.
Wall Street Journal
“Adolescence is, at the center of its broken heart, an examination of tormented youth.”
Adolescence is streaming on Netflix.
