Stephen Fry’s Secret to 6 Years of Privacy with Husband: Revealed on Jonathan Ross Show
Stephen Fry explains the reason behind not being seen with his spouse Elliott Spencer for the past six years during his recent appearance on the Jonathan Ross show, which will be broadcast this coming Saturday.
67-year-old broadcaster and 36-year-old Elliot usually prefer to keep their marital life low-key, but recently the celebrity has shared insights into their leisure activities and subtly suggested reasons why they seldom appear in public together.
He admitted they ‘don’t go out to Hollywood parties much’ and instead prefer a night in together.
While discussing his role as host for Jeopardy! on ITV1 and ITVX, the presenter confessed, “It turned out to be a huge blunder… but a delightful one, if you ask me.
In a thrilling turn of events, I found myself basking in the spotlight on The Morning Show in the US. Over a delightful dinner with my esteemed American agent, he posed a curious question: ‘What do you two when you’re not summoned on set?’ With a heart full of passion, I shared our simple yet fulfilling routine: ‘My husband and I, we seldom attend Hollywood soirees, instead, we savor an early dinner, catch Jeopardy!, and then retire to dreamland.’
He continued: ‘He said, “Do you watch it in the UK?” I said, ‘We don’t have it in the UK.”

As our chat progressed, I didn’t give it another thought. Then, out of the blue, two weeks later, my phone rang, and he shared this exhilarating news: “They’re overjoyed that you’ll be gracing the stage of Jeopardy on ITV London!
Additionally, Aimee Lou Wood, Joanne McNally, Big Zuu, and a live show by Yungblud are set to appear on the upcoming episode of Jonathan Ross’s show.
On our 10th wedding anniversary this past January, I followed suit, penning a heartfelt tribute to my partner, Elliot, on Instagram, echoing the sentiment Stephen had so beautifully expressed earlier.
Expressing his delightful perspective on their joyous union, the broadcaster exclaimed, “I feel incredibly fortunate” as he posted an endearing black-and-white picture from their wedding day.
He wrote: ‘Ten happy years to the day since we were joined in marriage. I’m a lucky man.’
The older-younger pair, with an age difference close to three decades, appears more robust than ever based on recent affectionate social media updates.
In January 2015, Stephen and Elliot got married, a mere 10 days following their engagement announcement.
As Elliot from Southampton, I first crossed paths with Stephen in the year 2014. Initially, I was recognized as “Mr. E.” prior to our partnership becoming public knowledge.
Previously, Stephen shared his preference for not surpassing the age of 100 due to his dislike for potential loneliness.

He admitted that he would find it ‘deeply upsetting’ to see a world without his friends and family.
In a conversation with Evgeny Lebedev on his Brave New World podcast, Stephen expressed that while he appreciates the concept of death, it’s the notion of deterioration or decay that unsettles him.
He clarified: “To be honest, I don’t have a strong personal inclination towards prolonging my own life. What I yearn for, like many others, is an aging process that minimizes discomfort and reduces the extent of cognitive decline…
‘But I am not someone who wants to live longer than the rest of my friends.’
He added: ‘If everyone – my loved ones including family and acquaintances – managed to live well into their twelfth decade, then perhaps I’d find contentment in reaching a century. However, given the current situation, I would dread becoming the solitary Flying Dutchman character, so often romanticized throughout history…’
‘I’d find it extremely disheartening to discover that the sole survivor has lost all their relatives and friends who passed away afterwards.’
In the 2025 New Year Honours, Stephen was honored with knighthood, further solidifying his esteemed position as a beloved national figure.
The entertainer, both a comedian and an actor, as well as a host, expressed being surprised and charmed upon winning the highest award – claiming it was unexpected.
Sir Stephen, open about his struggles with bipolar disorder that led to his school expulsion, was honored for his contributions to mental health advocacy, environmental conservation, and charitable causes.

As a lifestyle expert, I express my deepest sentiments, just like Sir Stephen does, by saying that I firmly believe there’s always a glimmer of hope for anyone grappling with mental health challenges. Let us remember, our struggles do not define us; they are merely hurdles along the path towards self-discovery and growth.
He mentioned that he aims to display kindness, bravery, and politeness, as these traits are characteristic of a true knight.
The host of QI openly discussed his struggles with sickness, which led to his dismissal from a boarding school during his youth and also landed him in jail for a period of time.
Later, he enrolled in Cambridge University, where he established a comedy troupe along with Dame Emma Thompson, Tony Slattery, and Hugh Laurie, which became renowned at the prestigious Footlights club on campus.
I skyrocketed into stardom, sharing the screen with Laurie in the hilarious A Bit of Fry & Laurie, and later, acting alongside the iconic doctor from House in Jeeves and Wooster and Blackadder. It’s been an absolute dream come true!
The Jonathan Ross Show airs on Saturday at 9:20pm on ITV1, ITVX, STV AND STV Player
