Stellar Blade Director Is Now One of the Richest People in Korea

Kim Hyung-tae’s rise to billionaire-level riches is pretty damn impressive.

Originally working as a video game artist, Kim eventually founded Shift Up, the team behind the PS5 success Stellar Blade, which has significantly increased his net worth.

As reported by Forbes, Kim currently ranks among the 50 wealthiest individuals in South Korea, with an estimated net worth of approximately $725 million.

Indeed, a significant portion of Shift Up’s financial prosperity is attributed to their hit mobile game, Goddess of Victory: Nikke, which features an array of waifus. This game’s immense popularity allowed the developer to venture into the challenging, single-player action genre with Stellar Blade.

Kim continues to actively involve himself in his projects, even holding key roles like director, co-producer, and co-designer for Stellar Blade, while simultaneously occupying the position of chairman at the company.

It’s intriguing to speculate about Shift Up’s future moves, given their impressive performance last year. They’ve certainly established a robust position for themselves, setting a new record in 2024. However, the course they choose will be crucial. While we know they’re currently developing something, it remains unclear whether this new project leans more towards the style of Nikke or Stellar Blade.
