Shift Up, the company that created Stellar Blade, has purchased Unbound, a Japanese game studio. Unbound is led by Shinji Mikami, a well-known figure in the gaming industry, and its team is made up of experienced developers. Shift Up and Unbound have announced they are also working on new, original games for PC and consoles.
Shift Up CEO Hyung-Tae Kim announced the company is partnering with Unbound, a development team renowned for its leadership under CEO Shinji Mikami. Kim stated that this collaboration will allow Shift Up to create even better games for players around the world and strengthen its position as a leading global game developer.
As a big fan, I was really happy to hear from Mikami that teaming up with Shift Up means his team can focus more on the fun, creative stuff when making games. It sounds like they’ll have more freedom to really make something special!
Mikami expressed his excitement about working with Hyung-Tae Kim, the CEO of Shift Up, and the entire team. He feels a strong connection with Kim, who is also a creator himself, and believes this partnership will allow both companies to prioritize making enjoyable games that will satisfy their fans. They are committed to working together to deliver on those expectations.
Shift Up announced that acquiring Unbound will strengthen its ability to develop games for PC and consoles. Moving forward, Shift Up will also publish all of Unbound’s future titles.

If you asked him to describe himself, he’d likely say he finds numbers fascinating because limitations feel like a challenge. Overall, he seems to be doing well and there are no real concerns.
Shift Up has announced they’re already planning a sequel to Stellar Blade. They revealed this during a presentation last year and are aiming to release the new game sometime in 2026.
