Stella McCartney’s Empire Collapses! Bond Street Store to Close!

It’s well-known that Stella McCartney’s own label has been experiencing significant financial losses as of late.

Now, it seems the designer has decided to relinquish the lease on her cherished Bond Street store, which still has eight years left on its term, as an effort to curb her financial losses.

The news follows the disclosure that the business has been reporting an annual loss of approximately £25 million, as per its latest financial statements.

In 2014, Sir Paul McCartney’s daughter opted for 23 Old Bond Street as her central London exhibition space. Since then, she has luxuriously decorated it, including the addition of a ‘Stella-vator’, which is an elevator embellished with pink faux fur.

Apart from that, she furnished the 18th-century Grade II listed building with designer pieces, such as an authentic Mario Bellini couch priced at a staggering £20,795, and Scottish stones transported directly from her family’s farm.

However, despite the high expenditures, the Stella McCartney label hasn’t recorded a profit since making £9 million in 2017, which was a year prior to the grand opening of its flagship store.

Indeed, records indicate that the designer’s annual revenue significantly decreased from approximately £40 million in 2022 to around £22 million in 2023, marking a substantial reduction. Previously, Stella had expressed her sentiments by stating: ‘Old Bond Street, it is undoubtedly one of the most esteemed retail locations globally. It’s truly an immense privilege for us to be situated here. This store narrates the tale of the Stella McCartney universe.’

What lies ahead for Stella? Is she planning to launch another flagship store, or will her clients at Bond Street need to make the journey to her shop in Bicester Village, Oxfordshire instead?

McCartney’s representatives did not respond to my request for comment.

 

Nail bar takes the gloss off Rita’s aura

Despite being a successful pop singer who also models for Chanel, it doesn’t automatically grant Rita Ora the status of a queen or royalty.

Rita, the current host of The Masked Singer in the U.S., unexpectedly found a somewhat worn-out nail salon in West London and requested an emergency manicure. However, to her disappointment, the overwhelmed staff informed her that they were already fully booked.

Following the departure of the performer known for “Hot Right Now”, a client asked: ‘Wasn’t that Rita Ora?’ Yet, the nail technicians seemed puzzled – with one replying: ‘Pardon my ignorance, who is that?’

Prior to Robbie Williams displaying his artwork at London’s Moco Museum on Thursday, attendees were advised not to snap pictures along with the performer.

Williams, right, has told how he feels ‘anxious’ and ‘fearful’ of strangers asking for selfies. 

Unfortunately, the audience didn’t seem to heed his message: as he appeared, a multitude of iPhones were raised towards him, and people started lining up around him. Maybe Robbie should have sung the lyrics from his 1999 hit Strong, saying “You think I’m strong, you’re mistaken!

 

Helen Fielding gained widespread recognition following the success of her Bridget Jones novels, however, I’ve heard that fame might have come with a certain cost.

According to Fielding, during the Soho Summit festival held at the fashionable Soho Farm House in Oxfordshire, he admitted that he had transformed into someone overly self-absorbed. His primary desire, he stated, was to spend time viewing images of himself.

On an evening, it turned out that the author was quite agitated upon discovering a photographer hiding in the shrubbery outside her residence. However, as she approached, she recognized him to be none other than a delivery person from Domino’s Pizza.

At a private event centered around ‘courage sparking creative transformation’, Fielding had an engaging conversation with author and journalist, Dolly Alderton.

Additionally, notable personalities like Rebel Wilson and Gillian Anderson (from Hollywood) shared their experiences with “impostor syndrome” during their roles in productions such as The Crown and The Fall.

Despite being one of the nation’s most renowned schools, Eton College is not receiving any preferential treatment from its local council regarding a proposed development plan. Specifically, the college wishes to tear down an old barn in the nearby Dorney village, Buckinghamshire, to construct 12 new houses. However, this proposal has been consistently denied by the authorities.

In February, Eton re-presented their proposals, which sparked the nearby town council to file a new complaint. They argued that the project is excessively large, raised doubts about its economic sustainability, and expressed concerns that it could endanger local bat and badger populations.

Despite attempts to control them, the deer at Duke of Grafton’s Euston Estate in Suffolk are acting wildly out of control. Director Robert Childerhouse explains: ‘They dash through our crops… causing substantial damage – even before they start eating any!’
