In the near future, Valve plans to grant licenses to third-party manufacturers for using this OS on their own devices, with Lenovo’s Legion Go S being the first device to utilize it. Here’s a look at Lenovo’s entry into the portable gaming market, which is powered by SteamOS, and how its pricing compares favorably to the Steam Deck at $499.
Lenovo Legion Go S to feature SteamOS
The Legion Go S model comes in four distinct editions, each equipped with a unique APU. Each edition of the Go S showcases varying features, with one being a SteamOS variant. Recently, Lenovo unveiled a Legion Go S SteamOS version, following Valve’s endorsement. Although it may not be the sole handheld device to incorporate SteamOS, it is the inaugural one launched outside Valve itself.

The price-tag of $499 for the Lenovo Legion Go S running on SteamOS positions it as a formidable rival against Valve’s own Steam Deck. Although Valve may experience some hardware-related pressure, the widespread adoption of their operating system represents a significant triumph for them. In the realm of PC game distribution, Valve is already a dominant force, if not the absolute leader. They have developed several games like Counter-Strike, Dota 2, Artifact, Deadlock, and others. However, most of their revenue comes from the Steam Marketplace and the Steam Store, where developers offer various types of games for sale. This marketplace also enables users to trade cosmetic items, with Valve earning a small percentage as commission.
In May 2025, we can expect the launch of the Lenovo Legion Go S. This device boasts both AMD Ryzen Z2 Go and AMD Ryzen Z1 extreme platforms, providing a gaming experience reminiscent of PCs, thanks to its PureSight Display. Moreover, it appears that SteamOS is becoming more popular, with multiple manufacturers planning to unveil devices running this operating system.
