The world of digital gaming is constantly changing, with games frequently being removed from platforms like Steam or having their online servers closed. Just recently, Disney took down several games from Steam, including the original Dark Forces, a classic Star Wars shooter.
RPG fans have a mix of news today. The online RPG Book of Travels, currently in early access, will be taken offline soon. However, players will have one last chance to experience the game’s online features before the servers close.
Book Of Travels Is Shutting Down Servers
Book of Travels is a distinctive and ambitious indie game where you explore a multiplayer world full of mystery. It focuses on the journey itself, rather than reaching a specific goal. While the game has detailed RPG elements for developing your character, it doesn’t have a traditional story or endpoint. Instead, players face the challenges of communicating with others and freely discovering the world around them.
Might and Delight announced that the servers for Book of Travels will shut down on July 31st, 2026, after which the game will be playable offline. To reflect this change and acknowledge that the online aspect is what made the game unique, they’re lowering the price from $29.99 to $4.99 and allowing players to freely modify the game. They are also ending active development and will remove the ‘early access’ label from the game’s Steam page.
It’s Not Too Late To Play
I’ve been wanting to try Book of Travels for a while, and I’m disappointed to hear it’s shutting down. But with the game now available for just $4.99, I decided it was the perfect time to jump in and explore its online world before support ends.
Although it’s never good to see a multiplayer game close, Might and Delight appears to be shutting it down as responsibly as possible. The studio says they’ve been exploring alternatives for the past year and ultimately decided this was the only option, suggesting it wasn’t an easy decision.
Even though the game is going offline, you’ll still be able to play it. The reduced price on Steam is reasonable, even if the experience will be limited. If you’re interested in playing Book of Travels while it still has online multiplayer, be sure to do so before the end of July.
