Over the past week, some game developers with extremist views have publicly celebrated the death of Charlie Kirk, sparking widespread outrage from gamers. While some of these developers have faced job loss as a result, others have tried to avoid attention. Now, a list on Steam is being created to identify game studios employing developers who expressed support for Kirk’s death.
Gamers React to the Death of Charlie Kirk
The sudden death of Charlie Kirk, a well-known American debater and political organizer, on September 10th, caused a strong reaction from across the political spectrum. People quickly shared their thoughts online, with many friends, supporters, and colleagues mourning his loss. Notably, even some of his political opponents put aside their disagreements to honor him.

Unfortunately, some people have reacted to the tragedy by spreading false information and attacking the reputation of the person who died. This disrespectful behavior wasn’t limited to anonymous online users; well-known game companies like Bethesda and Sucker Punch also participated.

Someone created a list on Steam to collect all games made by or connected to these developers. This list, called “CharlieTweetsDetected,” became available on September 13th.
As of this writing, the project has garnered over 28,000 followers.
The Curator’s Impartial Intentions
The creator of *CharlieTweetsDetected* told me they were inspired by the popular “Sweet Baby Inc Detected” list from 2024.

The creator of the page said they were motivated by the way SBI detected curators had been successful. It started when they saw a tweet from the developer of a game called *Ghost of Yotei* that bothered them, but they initially thought it was a one-off incident. Then, they saw a tweet from the official Twitter account of a game called Caravan SandWitch that really upset them. The tweet said, ‘What a week, our game came out and a fascist got 360 no scoped.’ That was the final straw.

While the person who created this list openly shares their political views online, the project itself isn’t meant to be about politics. The person in charge says they don’t mind if the developers have their own political opinions.
He later clarified that the issue wasn’t about differing ideologies, but rather a choice between violence and peace.
I don’t want to be labeled as taking sides in the current political climate. While my personal views align more with Kirk’s, I don’t care about the political affiliations of developers. However, celebrating someone’s death or labeling anyone – including Kirk – as a Nazi is unacceptable.

He’s made it clear, both publicly and privately, that developers shouldn’t be harassed because of *CharlieTweetsDetected*. The goal is to help shift the industry away from extreme viewpoints, not to attack individuals.
I came across this interesting term a while back – ‘stochastic terrorism.’ Essentially, it’s when someone uses language to subtly encourage another person to commit violence, not by directly saying ‘go attack them,’ but by using loaded labels and framing that can justify harmful actions in someone else’s mind. It’s a really unsettling concept, and it made me think a lot about the power of words.

He expressed his gratitude and said he hoped this situation would allow him to share his Christian faith. He clarified that his actions weren’t intended to harass anyone, but rather to hold them accountable, and asked people not to directly contact the developers involved.
Negative Reviews for Studios Which Celebrate Charlie Kirk’s Death
The author has implicated several major film studios, meaning both their current and past movies are now under scrutiny.
Games like *Fallout: New Vegas* and *Quake* came out over ten years ago, and the people who originally made them no longer work at those companies. Despite this, the studios still profit from ongoing sales and player engagement, so they can still be affected by a negative review.
You’ll find similar feedback across many *Fallout* games, and really, most games made by Bethesda.

According to a review, Bethesda posted a screenshot from Indiana Jones on Twitter-before deleting it-that seemed to suggest they weren’t upset about the passing of a figure described as a fascist. The review suggests this post, made shortly before September 10th, was a subtle reference to William Shatner (known for playing Captain Kirk).
Or this one, which can be found on Quake.
According to a review, the head of Nightdive Studios expressed that those who supported the violent imagery directed at Donald Trump also deserved similar treatment. The reviewer stated they are working to stop this kind of harmful language.
However, there is potential for these titles to be removed from the list in the future.
The curator stated that they would publicly criticize the company if they fired the person, but wouldn’t delete the entry until the company issued an apology.
I’ll publicly address it if the company fires this person, but I won’t delete the information until the company issues an apology. Microsoft came close to doing that, but their statement was unclear about which team or employees they were referring to, so it wasn’t a sufficient apology.

Some games will not be eligible for review adjustments. If a developer has shown disrespect or made insensitive jokes about Charlie Kirk, any negative feedback from the account CharlieTweetsDetected will stand. For instance, Studio Plane Toast, the creators of Caravan SandWitch, have repeatedly shared and created online content that attacks Charlie Kirk and trivializes his passing.
The Positive Side
The user said he was surprised the list became so popular, but he wants to help gamers find what they’re looking for.
He also admitted he was surprised by how many people reacted. He’d initially thought around 100 people might participate to either save money or explore other options.
To help achieve this, the curator list includes a section for leaving encouraging, positive reviews and urging players to support the game developers featured. This section includes games created by a diverse group of people, from those with controversial political views – like supporters of Charlie Kirk – to those who have publicly rejected political violence.
The curator prefers to keep their online identity private, but they share content on YouTube under the name “Kayfabe Media,” where they stream video games, and on X, where they share updates.
Studios Must Intervene
Companies working to avoid disasters like the Concord incident should also address employees who express violent views, as these could jeopardize other projects.
Gaming is increasingly affected by political divisions, and it’s important for game developers to respond in a way that reassures players.
