Staying on the Pulse of the Pace with JBL’s +1 Run Club
As a dedicated fan of Ante fashion label, I’m excited to share some insights from Christian Zellin, one of its co-founders. On weekends, we get together with like-minded creatives in Berlin for a run – a space we affectionately refer to as a safe haven. Amidst the hustle and bustle of our individual schedules, this run club offers an opportunity to unwind, be ourselves without pretense, and sweat it out together.
In contrast to regular running events, this specific race is extraordinary as Ante has partnered with JBL to let people test the latest version of the Flip 7 speaker on the go. The goal isn’t just about testing the device but also evaluating its praised portability and shock-resistance. TopMob documents this unique activation, showcasing how they leverage sound to expand their network and foster relationships by inviting friends of all skill levels.
Gathering at LAP café – a vibrant cultural spot nestled in the trendy Mitte district – the evening’s gathering begins with participants socializing over coffee and making new acquaintances within the group, following Ante’s usual pattern. With everyone assembled at the designated starting point, co-founder Marcus Butler stirs up enthusiasm among the runners with a brief warm-up, accompanied by soothing house music. “It’s fascinating how a song can impact your mood,” he notes. “You might be feeling one way, but as soon as you hear a specific track, you could experience a significant emotional shift.
With Zellin and Julian Weigl, one of the original founders of Ante, as they depart, fasten their devices using carabiners and initiate the revolutionary Auracast™ feature to link their speakers for enhanced audio. Guided by the rhythm, they navigate the bustling streets of inner-city Berlin before reaching the scenic riverbank en route to the Brandenburger Tor monument. Reaching midway, the music’s pace quickens thanks to Ante’s preferred tech-house beats – a favorite among local Berliners – propelling them forward in their final leg of the journey.
As they traverse Tiergarten, the sudden emergence of sunshine reveals Gleisdreieck park’s conclusion. A chorus of cheers and sighs echoes through as the group gradually slows down. Gathering in a circle, Butler takes charge again for a cool-down session. Notably, the music shifts from lively beats to a funky, house-infused groove, seamlessly altering genres. Although their run concludes, the runners linger with LAP café brownies and coconut water in hand, bonding with fellow members.
Weigl shares that our running club originated from a weekly gathering of friends desiring social interaction. Since then, its popularity has skyrocketed due to its accessibility. Running clears one’s mind, allowing for deep thought and idea generation. Whether fostering creative connections or relieving daily stress, it’s evident that run clubs have proliferated throughout the city. With JBL’s Flip 7 providing music for each step, these clubs are poised to grow even further among Berlin’s artistic community.
