Stars Ryan Adams and Stacey Read break down The Ark season 2 (Exclusive)

As a passionate fan of The Ark, I was completely engrossed by the intense and thrilling season 2 premiere. The aftermath of the explosion in the first season was brutally portrayed, with deaths, fights for survival, and major betrayal. Finding a new planet to settle humanity on is proving to be even more challenging than anticipated.

In the opening of “The Ark” season 2, we are immediately plunged into the consequences of the previous explosion. There were fatalities, struggles for existence, and shocking acts of deceit. The challenge of discovering a new world to accommodate the dwindling human population proves to be more complex than anticipated.

In an exclusive interview with WinterIsComing, actors Ryan Adams (as Angus) and Stacey Read (as Alicia) discuss the premiere episode, “Failed Experiment.” Adams shares that his role mainly involved lying down during the episode, while everyone else worked to rescue people and fix the ship. The pair also hint at upcoming surprises in the series.

Ryan Adams talks feeling bad for Reece Ritchie (Lieutenant Spencer Lane) in The Ark season 2

I was elated to discover that Angus would make it through the game series. His character holds immense value to me, regardless of Maddox’s opinion. This is the fellow who managed to cultivate new crops when the world was decimated by the initial catastrophe that jolted us out of cryosleep.

Adams shared an amusing anecdote about feigning death during a ship emergency while those around him worked to rescue us all: “It was quite unfortunate for Rees (Ritche), since there’s that part where I’m in his arms, and he rushes to the medical bay for a crucial exchange with Strickland. However, each time this scene unfolded, I kept escaping his grasp due to my unexpected weight.”

I think, from where we find him in episode 1, 2, and then obviously 3, he has a lot of panic attacks and nightmares…We find him in a really really really bad place, physically and mentally, because he has no idea what’s going on. He has no idea why he’s waking up in Med Bay or why Kelly’s standing right there when just before she was killing him…He’s got so many questions.

Alicia is an optimist turned pessimist this season on The Ark

In simple terms, Alicia’s perspective on the current situation has been grounded in reality due to her scientific background. Simultaneously, she has managed to keep a hopeful outlook, believing that there is still a chance for survival.

In the season 2 premiere, Alicia notes that it’s not feasible for the entire Ark-1 team to join Maddox’s ship due to limitations, leaving her unable to find a solution for everyone’s survival. However, this predicament is later resolved. Despite her inability to see past the data at the moment.

You will start to se a bit more, I guess, pessimism from Alicia this season. She’s been through a lot/ The person she’s got really strong feelings for almost died, and everything from season 1 that’s happened. It’s a lot to take on. So I think going forward, you’ll see a lot of growth from her.

I’ve seen Alicia blossom during the first season of this game, and trust me, there are still many surprises in store. This young lady has found a place where she can express herself and prove just how sharp her mind is. The leaders in our group have given her the encouragement she needs to truly shine.

She’s gonna stand her ground a lot more, speak her mind a lot more. But she has to find a balance with how she does that…She was this very timid, meek little girl coming into it, but she’s the smartest person there.

Read and Adams were among the most youthful cast members on the show. In relation to the other characters, their roles could be considered the infants of the production. Similar to many of their colleagues, including Christie Burke, the development of their characters has followed a parallel path with their actual lives.

We kind of paralleled our character’s journeys, starting off as brand new, not knowing what to do, and then finding their fotting. Coming into season 2, we know what to do, but how can we grow even more? They’re still young characters; they don’t fully know themselves as people. They still have so many experiences, science fiction or just normal real life.

Get ready for new characters in The Ark season 2

The crew of Ark-1 will be welcoming some members from Ark-15. Although this may disrupt the existing harmony on board, it’s essential to have these newcomers as we strive to restore Ark-1 to full functionality. For Adams and Read, the experience has been quite pleasant: “Everyone is incredibly friendly and skilled. It’s fascinating to observe their actions.”

“When it comes to this topic, Alicia approaches it in a down-to-earth manner.”

Take a look at the full interview below:

The team now occupies the Ark-1 spacecraft. Maddox is displeased and angered by what she perceives as a betrayal from her crew, including her daughter. It’s crucial that we uncover more information about Kelly, as her actions could potentially threaten the existence of Ark-1. Is anyone truly secure?

The Ark season 2 continues to air on Wednesdays at 10/9c on Syfy.
