Starbucks features new drinks to bridge spooky season and "Wicked"

As a long-time musical theater enthusiast who has seen “Wicked” more times than I can count (and yes, I have a soft spot for both Glinda and Elphaba), I am absolutely thrilled about Starbucks‘ latest Halloween releases!

As the long-awaited movie adaptation of Stephen Schwarz’s 2003 musical “Wicked” approaches, it’s only natural for businesses to share in the excitement. Monopoly has introduced a “Wicked” edition that takes you on a journey through Wiz-o-mania. Forbes mentions that Zac Posen, Aldo, and Swarovski are set to release fashion lines inspired by Oz. Additionally, Starbucks is teasing a “Wicked” energy boost for its customers.

“And goodness knows, we know what goodness is”

For some individuals, a magical aura permeates throughout the year, but it’s Starbucks’ Halloween releases that often spark enthusiasm in the rest of us. Beginning on October 22, a full month before the movie’s premiere, they will be introducing Elphaba’s Green Elixir and Glinda’s Pink Potion.

According to Glinda and her almost radiant beverage, “Aren’t you delighted to see me?” This zesty concoction is a blend of Mango Dragonfruit refresher, hand-shaken with creamy coconut milk, ice, and genuine dragonfruit chunks. It is then adorned with velvety Strawberry Cream Cold Foam that’s not dairy, and colorful candy sprinkles. Not only does this drink complement anything Ariana Grande’s Glinda the Good Witch might wear, but it offers a refreshing boost with its mix of fresh fruit flavors and a hint of sweetness.

Simultaneously, the Green Potion of Elphaba seems to brim with potency. In the play, the Green Potion is cherished by both the enigmatic wizard and a shadowy figure from Elphaba’s past. Elphaba refuses it when presented, but the Starbucks-crafted version is quite alluring. It consists of Starbucks Cold Brew sweetened with Mint Syrup, adorned with velvety Matcha cream Cold Foam and vibrant candy sprinkles. Elphaba proclaims, “Oz must acknowledge, I’m wicked to the core,” yet this blend seems destined to be a taste sensation.

Don’t fret! Regardless of who your favorite witch is, there’s something enjoyable for everyone. Supporting Elphaba doesn’t exclude you from appreciating qualities that are “Galinda-like,” and enjoying an iced coffee (or a ‘cold brew’) won’t diminish your popularity. Both beverages are perfect ways to celebrate and gear up for the upcoming movie, which hits theaters in November.
