Star Wars Visions is back for Volume 3!
As a lifelong Star Wars enthusiast who grew up dreaming of intergalactic adventures, I can hardly contain my excitement over the announcement of Star Wars: Visions Volume 3! The first season was a revelation, merging my two passions – anime and the galaxy far, far away – into something truly magical. The second volume left me utterly spellbound, with “Screecher’s Reach” rearranging the very fabric of my Star Wars-loving mind.
Just moments ago, it has been revealed that the popular anthology series, Star Wars: Visions, is making a comeback with Volume 3. This exciting news was shared by Star Wars at their 2024 Disney APAC Content Showcase, accompanied by some tantalizing insights into this upcoming installment.
Similar to the previous two seasons, for Volume 3, nine studios will be producing the shorts. Notably, these studios are once again based in Japan, as was the case with the initial series. Four of these studios have worked on the project before: Kamikaze Douga, Kinema citrus Co., Production I.G, and TRIGGER. The remaining five studios are new to this venture. These include David Production, Polygon Pictures, Project Studio Q, WIT Studio, and ANIMA, who will be collaborating with Kamikaze Douga on this project.
In Volume 1, Kamikaze Douga+ originated “The Duel”, Kinema Citrus produced the Emmy Award contender “The Village Bride”, Production IG developed the beloved “The Ninth Jedi”, and TRIGGER handled both “The Twins” and “The Elder”.
There’s speculation among fans about whether we’ll get follow-up shorts for these standout episodes from Volume 1. These episodes, notably “The Duel”, “The Ninth Jedi”, “The Elder”, and “The Twins”, have left a lasting impression and even inspired additional stories in books, comics, and the Star Wars: Visions manga adaptation (alongside “Lop and Ocho”). This suggests that fans are eager to explore these stories further.
To put it simply, I’m utterly thrilled about the latest announcement regarding Star Wars: Visions. This project has been my absolute favorite from the Disney era, and the first season captivated me with its unique blend of anime and the galaxy far, far away that I’ve yearned for since childhood. The second volume pushed the boundaries of storytelling even further, leaving “Screecher’s Reach” to redefine my perspective on Star Wars narratives. Given that Star Wars Celebration is happening in Japan this April, it makes sense that we might not get any updates or sneak peeks until then.
Still, I am losing my mind over this announcement, and I can’t wait to see what Star Wars: Visions brings us in 2025.
