An actor from House of the Dragon recently gave fans an update on his part in the upcoming Star Wars movie, Starfighter. The film is directed by Shawn Levy and is scheduled to come out on May 28, 2027.
Matt Smith reveals when he will start filming for Star Wars: Starfighter
As a huge Star Wars fan, I was thrilled to hear from Smith in a recent interview with A Rabbit’s Foot that filming for Star Wars: Starfighter is finally scheduled to begin in December 2025! He also shared some exciting details about how much work is going into the project already. Apparently, he’s really focused right now on figuring out exactly how his character will look on screen. He mentioned he’s right in the middle of that process, getting everything just right.
They’re currently working on finding the right costume, and it often takes a few days of wearing something to really know if it’s perfect. Smith is preparing for a Star Wars project in December and they’re still finalizing the character’s appearance. This is particularly important because Smith is believed to be playing a villain, a role that requires a striking and powerful look. His co-star, Mia Goth, is also reportedly playing a villainous character.
As a big movie fan, I’ve been following the Starfighter news closely, and the timing of Matt Smith joining the production is a little curious. They started filming back in August with Ryan Gosling and Flynn Gray already there, but Smith doesn’t begin until December. It makes me wonder how big his role will actually be – maybe it’s important, but not necessarily a lead. Or, perhaps the filmmakers are just taking their time to really nail down the villainous side of things before they bring him in to shoot his scenes. Either way, I’m excited to see what they come up with!
This isn’t the first time Matt Smith has been connected to Star Wars. He was previously considered for the role of a young Emperor Palpatine in The Rise of Skywalker, but that didn’t happen. Now, he’s officially joining the Star Wars universe this December.
