The Star Wars sequels were controversial among fans, but actor Brian Herring thinks they’ll eventually be appreciated. Herring, who operated the BB-8 droid in Episodes VII through IX, points out that the reaction to the sequels was similar to the initial response to the prequel trilogy. He predicts fans will start to like the sequels more in about ten years.
Brian Herring had this to say about Star Wars sequel trilogy
Brian Herring recently told Game Reactor that he’s aware the Star Wars sequels (Episodes VII-IX) have received a lot of different opinions since they came out.
The actor pointed out that the recent Star Wars sequels are dividing fans just as much as the prequels did when they were first released. They explained that many people criticizing the sequels weren’t around to experience the backlash against the original films, but if the internet had been as prevalent back then, the reaction would have been very similar.
According to Herring, the current reaction to sequels is likely a generational divide. While sequels have a dedicated, younger fanbase he often meets, much of the online criticism comes from older audiences. He emphasizes that it’s okay if something isn’t for everyone, and that trends often repeat themselves, as famously stated in Battlestar Galactica: ‘This has all happened before, and it will all happen again.’
As of today, Disney hasn’t released a movie continuing Rey’s story after the end of The Rise of Skywalker.
