Star Wars: Skeleton Crew episode 4 recap and ending explained: What [SPOILER] means

As a seasoned space traveler and Star Wars enthusiast with over three decades under my belt, I must say that “Skeleton Crew” episode 4 was nothing short of exhilarating! The plot twists, the suspense, the unexpected alliances – it had it all!

As a gamer, I must say, diving into Star Wars: Skeleton Crew on Disney Plus has been an absolute joyride! This fresh take on the Star Wars universe explores uncharted territories of its rich lore, focusing on the charming world of At Attin and its enigmatic past. I can’t help but wonder about the hidden mysteries lurking beneath this supposedly perfect paradise, yet its very existence is shrouded in doubt by many. That alone makes it all the more intriguing!

The Star Wars series stands out uniquely within its franchise because it focuses on children as main characters for the first time. This fresh approach has significantly enhanced the initial three episodes, making the adventures of Wim, Fern, KB, and Neel captivating since their introduction. It’s worth noting that Jude Law’s character, Jod, adds an intriguing layer with his pirate background, leaving viewers unsure of his allegiance. Additionally, SM-33, a charming yet slightly terrifying droid, also contributes to the overall appeal of the series.

Amongst the group of adventurers, Neel has often been overshadowed by the others. However, this changes significantly in the fourth episode of “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew”, as it spotlights Neel instead.

Neel takes center stage

In the episode named “I Can’t Say I Remember Any Attin”, the team initially lands on what they believe is the planet Attin. However, as events unfold, it becomes clear that this isn’t actually Attin; instead, it appears to be one of several similar-looking planets labeled as “At” in their charts.

On the planet Achrann, they realize that it’s not their familiar world. It bears a striking resemblance to At Attin, with identical structures and architecture, but it’s a devastated version, shrouded in ash and fog, amidst ongoing conflict. Wim, Fern, KB, and Neel step off the ship and start exploring when they are trapped by two young Troik warriors, who shield them from the encroaching Hattan Patrol troops.

It appears the world is engulfed in a conflict between the Troik and the Hattan Patrol. The valiant youth who rescued the children brings them to their stronghold, which resembles At Achrann’s interpretation of a school. Here, they encounter her father, General Strix – the head of the Troik. Despite his benevolent demeanor when acknowledging that children deserve respect and equal treatment, there is a caveat to this kindness.

Strix discloses that the Hattan Patrol has swiped their eopies and intends to retrieve them by facing them. However, Hayna wishes to aid the extraterrestrials and requests her father to escort them to the Fallen Sanctum. He hesitates because he’s unsure if they are prepared, but he does propose a trial by letting them test some of their weaponry – an idea that delights Wim immensely.

Instead of engaging in conflict, Neel prefers peace. Consequently, Hayna escorts him for a stroll. During their walk, she discloses the Troik’s most powerful weapon, which only deepens Neel’s sorrow. He confides that At Attin is a place free from fighting, and though this might seem weak to her, it’s a tranquil haven where people are friendly towards one another. Pondering over this, Hayna wonders what life without war could have been like, before smiling and stating that she has never encountered anyone as unique as him.

In a questionable manner, General Strick puts trust in the children when he declares they will lead the charge against the Hattan Patrol. Neel is petrified to join his friends in combat, but Hayna bravely volunteers to accompany her father instead. Though displeased, Strick reluctantly agrees.

On the journey, everyone halts in alarm upon hearing a sound emerging from the mist. Suddenly, Jod materializes – seemingly having evaded a prior encounter with the Hattan Patrol. He guides the stolen Eopie back to the Troik, leaving everyone astonished. It was later discovered that the Hattan Patrol allowed both Jod and SM-33 to go free in exchange for some Republic currency, which they used to acquire the Eopie. Wim felt displeased learning about the use of the credits, but he begrudgingly accepted it, understanding that it had potentially saved their lives.

As I stood there, General Strick extended an offer I couldn’t refuse – a reward for my assistance. With a nod, I agreed and suggested the four youngsters accompany me. The kids, especially Fern, were taken aback by my actions, possibly viewing this as a significant stride towards earning their trust.

Skeleton Crew episode 4 ending explained: So close, but so far

After our harrowing experiences in At Achrann, we’ve been granted permission to explore the Fallen Sanctum in search of ancient scrolls potentially containing the coordinates to At Attin. Hayna guides us there, yet she can’t accompany us as she needs to rejoin her father. Before departing, she gives Neel a tender kiss on the cheek and reminds him that his perceived “weakness” makes him compassionate, and she yearns for a world like the one he paints in words. With a heavy heart, she bids us farewell and lets us continue our quest.

33 consistently responds with “I don’t recall anything about Attin” whenever discussions revolve around the children’s home planet, and it becomes clear later on why he says so. Upon their arrival, Jod and the kids stumble upon maps leading to all the At planets, but they find out that Attin was annihilated. It is then that 33 confesses that he was the one who carried out the destruction as per his captain’s instructions.

From the information I gather, it appears that Fern realizes his old commander gave him false instructions to discard the coordinates and erase his memory about them. The robot later discloses that the captain had discovered the coordinates for At Attin and instructed him to annihilate them as well as anyone searching for it. This revelation causes him to extend his limbs menacingly towards all the children. Neel steps in to avert disaster, using distraction to enable Jod to secretly shut down 33. Overwhelmed by the praise for his bravery, Neel subsequently collapses.

Indeed, the team is making progress in locating Planet Attin. Yet, the one being who holds the location information is currently unresponsive (and, let’s face it, appears to be a potential threat towards anyone seeking its whereabouts). For now, their trail has gone cold. However, there remains a glimmer of optimism.

As I sit here, my heart isn’t exactly light with the news that someone else is heading towards tranquil At Attin. For years, this mysterious planet has been a sanctuary, but now, it seems a ruthless pirate is on their way to claim the treasure. A pirate so greedy and cold-hearted, they were willing to let a droid help them exterminate their entire crew, just to grab everything for themselves.

Regarding pirates, it’s important to mention that despite having several chances, Jod chose to protect the children instead. Contrary to what Skeleton Crew suggests about him only being after the treasure and needing the kids to get there, he proves himself to be a protector for them. This was more than Fern anticipated from him. Furthermore, he didn’t shy away when Neel hugged him, and even returned a half-hug to Wim, albeit possibly for the audience (even though it could have been an act).

There is more to Jod than meets the eye, and there is certainly more to this story, too.
