Star Wars: Skeleton Crew D23 trailer reveals Jude Law’s Jedi and more

As a child of the ’80s who grew up with the magic of Amblin Entertainment and Star Wars, I can’t help but feel a profound sense of nostalgic excitement at the prospect of “Skeleton Crew.” The trailer promises an enthralling blend of my beloved intergalactic saga and the heartwarming adventure tales of my youth. Jude Law in full Jedi garb? Sign me up!

Lucasfilm has unveiled the first teaser for “Skeleton Crew”, a new Star Wars series, set to premiere on Disney Plus on December 3. This trailer follows the reveal of “The Acolyte”, and marks an extension of Lucasfilm and Disney’s efforts to explore Star Wars beyond its Skywalker-focused comfort zone.

As a child of the ’80s, I can confidently say that the upcoming series sounds like a nostalgic trip down memory lane for me. The blend of intergalactic adventure and the charm of classic Amblin Entertainment films is sure to evoke feelings of wonder and excitement in those who grew up watching those timeless classics. With Jude Law starring alongside a young cast, I’m reminded of the magical moments I experienced while watching E.T., The Goonies, and Gremlins, which have left an indelible mark on my childhood. And with the added bonus of seeing him in full Jedi garb in the trailer, it only heightens my anticipation for this series. I can’t wait to see how this show unfolds and whether it will capture the magic and charm of those iconic films.

As a gamer immersed in the Star Wars universe, I can’t help but be thrilled by the sneak peek of this upcoming show. It seems they’re blending the nostalgic vibe of ’80s suburban America, reminiscent of Amblin films, with the futuristic elements we love about Star Wars. You’ll see kids attending school, zooming around on speeder bikes, sneaking aboard spaceships, and dodging space pirates. Plus, there’s a hint that office life in the Star Wars galaxy is not so different from our own, with characters working tirelessly in cubicles within administrative offices – a nod to the recent focus on this aspect in the series (which leaves me wondering about the connection!).

It seems that “Skeleton Crew” is primarily designed as a self-contained story, but it shares the same time period with “The Mandalorian,” specifically the early days of the New Republic. The trailer hints at one direct connection to this series, featuring the space pirate Vane, portrayed by Marti Matulis.

The show was developed by Jon Watts, director of the latest Spider-Man movies, in collaboration with Christopher Ford. Notably, Watts and Ford have brought together a talented group of directors for this series, which includes David Lowery (known for “The Green Knight”), the duo Daniels (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”), and Lee Isaac Chung (“Twisters”). The cast features Kerry Condon from “The Banshees of Inisherin”, as well as Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Kyriana Kratter, and Robert Timothy Smith portraying the children.
