Star Wars Outlaws Patch For 'Punishing' Early Stealth Sections is on the Way

As a seasoned gamer with years of stealth missions under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of relief and anticipation upon hearing Ubisoft’s plans for Star Wars Outlaws. The early insta-fail stealth sections have been a thorn in my side, often leading to frustrated exclamations that would make even Han Solo blush.

Ubisoft announced that they aim to roll out a new update for “Star Wars Outlaws” within approximately ten days. This update is intended to tackle the overly challenging stealth sections that occur early in the game, which, as admitted by Creative Director Julian Gerighty himself, can be excessively punishing.

In response to questions about initial stealth operations, Gerighty admitted there was room for enhancement. He explained, “You might be recalling one of our early missions in Mirogana, which can be quite challenging,” he shared with GamesRadar. “In my opinion, that was a blunder, and it’s an area we plan to focus on refining.

As a gamer, I’m excited to share that while the challenging aspects of the missions won’t disappear completely, Gerighty acknowledges there are numerous opportunities for improvement. He mentions “millions of low hanging fruits” where we can enhance the experience and make it more clear-cut. Originally, the intention behind the difficulty was to generate a “sort of tension,” but it was never meant to feel unfair.

Gerighty continues by expressing his sentiment today as unjust. Interestingly, this wasn’t our initial plan, he adds. This unexpected issue seems to have arisen within the past week, and we are swiftly addressing it in a forthcoming update, which might be ready in approximately ten days. However, please note that the patch will undergo fine-tuning before it is deemed suitable for release.

Director Mathias Karlson clarifies that the game designer aims to maintain a balance where the character is in a “delicate situation between, ‘I’m totally hidden, oh no: They’re about to spot me. They spotted me, but I can still take action before alerting them. I can cause a local disturbance to dodge this predicament’.

Karlson mentions that after the update reaches players, it will be assessed. “If it doesn’t resonate with its current settings and a significant number of players, we certainly pay close attention to this feedback and may make adjustments,” he explained. Furthermore, Gerighty is also receptive to making more changes, particularly if specific game elements are hindering the player’s enjoyment.

If you mention today that this issue hinders players from enjoying the game, then we’ll adjust the storyline, correct? He went on to explain. “We’ll make an announcement like [in a PA voice] ‘Stormtroopers have landed on Toshara and now we have a skeleton crew on site.’ By doing so, we’ll alter the context in order to enhance the gameplay experience for players as much as possible.

Fundamentally, our aim is to enhance the liberty in Star Wars Outlaws, while still maintaining its storyline coherence – and both Gerighty and Karlson express strong confidence in player autonomy. Fingers crossed, the upcoming update will address the challenge experienced in those tricky stealth sections.
