Lucasfilm recently unveiled a new type of Stormtrooper, showcasing Star Wars’ knack for combining classic elements with fresh ideas. This reveal is timed with the upcoming theatrical release of The Mandalorian and Grogu on May 22nd, which continues the story set during the New Republic era. Similar to how Din Djarin echoes Boba Fett and Grogu shares a species with Yoda – but are unique characters in their own right – this new Stormtrooper design offers a familiar yet distinct look for the film.
Recent merchandise related to The Mandalorian and Grogu has unveiled a new type of Stormtrooper called the Imperial Remnant Snowtrooper, offering fans the best look so far at a key enemy in the upcoming movie. This is the second new Stormtrooper variation revealed for the film, the first being linked to the AT-RT vehicles that are also expected to appear.

Hasbro unveiled a new action figure featuring the trooper’s distinctive white (or cream-colored) armor. The figure includes a helmet with a bucket shape, a long, flowing white cape, and a dark, mechanical piece covering the mouth.

The figure included two blasters, though stormtroopers aren’t exactly famous for their accuracy – shooting is pretty much their main job, after all.

The toys gave fans their first good look at the challenges Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu will face in the new movie, and revealed that the bad guys will have a powerful, large sniper blaster.

A LEGO BrickHeadz version of the character was also released, giving fans a different, simplified, but still recognizable depiction of the enemy.

The packaging offers a clearer view of the new Stormtrooper design in live action. The dark panel under the eyes is a striking feature, making this version visually distinct.

Even though it was built with simple, block-like shapes, the BrickHeadz figure clearly showed off the important details of this new version, like its small blaster.

The BrickHeadz model, even more so than the realistic pictures, highlights a suit that appears to be two-toned, combining white with a cream or sand color.

This LEGO figure is a good addition to the core characters, reminding young fans that these soldiers are the villains.

The Snowtroopers of the Imperial Remnant look quite different from the standard Stormtroopers seen after the Empire fell. They’re much more similar to the Snowtroopers from The Empire Strikes Back. A major difference is their masks: the original Snowtroopers had faces completely hidden by a white cloth attached to their helmets.
Interestingly, these enemies are similar to the Flametroopers seen in the games Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor.
Din Djarin has encountered different types of Stormtroopers before. Throughout The Mandalorian series, the show moves away from the classic, uniform Stormtroopers of the original Star Wars films, instead presenting them as varied remnants – like this new group prepared for harsh conditions.
The show introduced exciting new enemy types, like the Incinerator Troopers who used flamethrowers, and the frightening Dark Troopers – powerful droids. But Season 3 really changed things up. Instead of just using disposable soldiers, the show featured the Imperial Armored Commandos – a more formidable and well-equipped enemy, who were even made into LEGO sets!
Who’s the Villain of Star Wars’ Next Movie?
The increasing number of different Stormtrooper types shown in The Mandalorian and Grogu suggested big battles were coming, but didn’t give us much information about who was leading the remaining Imperial forces.
Giancarlo Esposito, who played the main villain Moff Gideon for three seasons, won’t be in the new movie. This leaves a significant gap in the series’ lineup of antagonists.
This introduced a new danger: Rotta the Hutt and his entire criminal organization, the Hutt Clan, could become major enemies.
There was speculation that a character similar to Embo from Star Wars: The Clone Wars – a bounty hunter – might be the main villain. However, it’s still unknown, and some fans are worried the new movie could harm the Star Wars franchise overall.
