Star Wars announced that some familiar actors will be replaced in the next installment of the Clone Wars saga. A trailer for Maul: Shadow Lord recently premiered, giving fans a preview of the new animated series, which will be a darker and more intense story. Along with the trailer, details about the series were also revealed. It will begin streaming on Disney+ on April 6th.
In a recent announcement about the new series inspired by Darth Maul, Lucasfilm shared important details, including what the story will be about, when each episode will be released, and who the voice actors are.
The new series features several actors who have appeared in Star Wars before, including Sam Witwer reprising his role as the main Sith Lord. Interestingly, some of these returning actors are playing completely new characters in the franchise.
The new series, Maul: Shadow Lord, will begin streaming on April 6, 2026, with two episodes available each week until May 4. This ten-episode continuation of the Clone Wars story follows Maul as he travels the galaxy after the Jedi Order has fallen. His journey leads him to the remote planet of Janix, where he aims to establish himself as a powerful criminal.
Every Star Wars Veteran in Maul: Shadow Lord
Vanessa Marshall

Many Star Wars fans recognize Vanessa Marshall for her role in the popular series, Star Wars: Rebels. She voices Hera Syndulla, the skilled pilot of the Ghost crew, and appeared throughout all four seasons of the show, which takes place before the original Star Wars trilogy.
I’m excited to report that Ashley Eckstein is heading back to a galaxy far, far away! But this time, she won’t be voicing Ahsoka Tano, the character she’s so beloved for. Instead, she’s taking on the role of Rook Kast, a Mandalorian warrior, in the upcoming Maul: Shadow Lord. Interestingly, this isn’t her first time playing Rook! She originally voiced the armored mercenary in Season 7 of The Clone Wars and even reprised the role in a few episodes of The Bad Batch, so she really knows the character.
Richard Ayoade

Richard Ayoade will return to the Star Wars universe in the new series Maul, portraying a police droid named Two-Boots. He’ll be working with Wagner Moura, who recently received an Oscar nomination, as Captain Brander Lawson of the Janix police force.
Richard Ayoade, famous for his role in the popular show The IT Crowd, has been involved with Star Wars in a surprising way. He not only appeared as a character in the series, but he also provided the voice for the droid Q9-0 in Season 1 of The Mandalorian.
Chris Diamantopoulos

Chris Diamantopoulos is back in the Star Wars galaxy! He previously voiced the character M-6NK, also known as Monk, in the video game Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Many players will recognize Monk as the bartender at Pyloon’s Saloon, a key location on the planet Koboh.
In the upcoming comic series Maul: Shadow Lord, former Silicon Valley actor will play the character Looti Vario. Details about Looti Vario’s role in the story haven’t been revealed yet.
A.J. LoCascio

Okay, so I was surprised to learn A.J. LoCascio has a pretty solid Star Wars history! Turns out, he’s actually voiced Han Solo in a few different projects, including Star Wars Forces of Destiny and The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special. And if you watched Tales of the Underworld recently, you might recognize his voice – he played young Cad Bane! At 38, he’s quietly becoming a bit of a franchise veteran, which is pretty cool.
Dominic LoCascio will be the voice of the character Marrok, the masked inquisitor, in the upcoming series Maul: Shadow Lord. Marrok was first seen in Season 1 of Ahsoka (you can find more details about his role in Ahsoka here).
Steve Blum

Steve Blum, known for his work on Star Wars Rebels, is returning for Maul: Shadow Lord to play a new character named Icarus. This upcoming series continues the story of the Clone Wars.
Blum previously played the character Zeb in the Rebels series, and also provided the voice for many different Stormtroopers throughout the Star Wars stories.
David W. Collins

As a big Star Wars fan, I was excited to hear David W. Collins – a voice acting vet – is joining the cast of Maul: Shadow Lord! He’s going to be playing a brand new character called Spybot, who seems to be some kind of droid. Lucasfilm hasn’t given us many details about Spybot yet, so it’s all pretty mysterious right now.
Collins has worked on many projects within the Star Wars galaxy. He’s particularly famous for providing the voice of numerous Battle Droids in the prequel films, 1-JAC in the series Obi-Wan Kenobi, and the robotic sidekick of Starkiller in the popular video game The Force Unleashed.
