As a lifestyle expert with a deep-rooted affection for storytelling and pop culture, I find myself brimming with excitement at the news of a new Star Wars trilogy helmed by Simon Kinberg. Having grown up in an era where the original Star Wars films were the talk of the town, I can vividly recall the sense of wonder they instilled in me – a feeling that I believe will be mirrored in this upcoming series.

After a five-year gap since the release of the last Star Wars film, Disney and Lucasfilm are set to revisit the cherished galaxy distant and remote once more.

According to Deadline, Disney has assigned writer and producer Simon Kinberg, known for his work on X-Men and Deadpool, to both pen and produce a brand-new Star Wars trilogy.

As a connoisseur of all things pop culture, I’ve got some exciting news to share about the iconic Star Wars franchise. According to recent reports, it appears that the upcoming trilogy will serve as Episodes 10-12 in the legendary Skywalker Saga, which originated with the groundbreaking 1977 film, Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.

However others have disputed that, insisting it will begin a new saga of Star Wars lore, though LucasFilm and Disney would not comment.

Kinberg verified the news by posting a picture of the Deadline article along with the caption, ‘Long ago, in a not-so-distant galaxy, there was a child who dreamt of storytelling after watching a film titled Star Wars…’.

Since the release of Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, Disney has been busy creating Star Wars content for their streaming service, but there hasn’t been a new big-screen film released since then.

Back in 2017, the studio unveiled plans for a fresh Star Wars trilogy penned and produced by Rian Johnson, who wrote and directed Episode VIII – The Last Jedi. However, details about this upcoming project have remained scarce since then.

As of April 2023, Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, stated that the project was ongoing. However, it seems that the status might have changed now.

It’s widely thought that it has stopped being developed, particularly given the announcement of Johnson and his producing partner Ram Bergman signing a two-film contract with Warner Bros. as early as March.

In simpler terms, the upcoming Star Wars film set for release on May 22, 2026, is titled “The Mandalorian & Grogu” and it’s a continuation of the TV series “The Mandalorian,” starring Pedro Pascal as the main character.

In April 2023, it was announced that alongside their current projects, Disney and Lucasfilm are working on an additional three movies, each taking place in distinct periods within the Star Wars universe.

The first is from writer-director James Mangold and co-writer Beau Willimon that is set during, ‘the dawn of the Jedi.’

This production is orchestrated by Dave Filoni, who’s renowned for creating “The Mandalorian” and “Star Wars Rebels.” It unfolds in the period known as the New Republic era, sandwiched between the original and subsequent trilogies.

In simpler terms, the story originates fifteen years after the sequel trilogy, as presented by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy in a fresh narrative sequence.

In the year 2005, Kinberg embarked on his writing journey with two movies – XXX: The Next Level and the action-packed thriller, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

He jumped into the comic book world with 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand, along with 2008’s Jumper and 2009’s Sherlock Holmes.

Additionally, he penned and directed X-Men: Days of Future Past in 2014, oversaw a fresh start for Fantastic Four in 2015, and supervised (but did not script) the Deadpool film series.

Apart from that, he was credited as a creative consultant and given a “thank you” mention in the films Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens (2015) and Rogue One (2016), receiving acknowledgment for his contributions to both productions.
