Star Wars Legend Backs New Lucasfilm Boss After Kathleen Kennedy Exit

Mark Hamill, best known for his role in Star Wars, has publicly supported Dave Filoni after Kathleen Kennedy stepped down as president of Lucasfilm. Hamill highlighted Filoni’s deep understanding of the Star Wars universe as the studio begins a new chapter.

Mark Hamill ‘can’t think of better hands’ for Star Wars than Dave Filoni

Mark Hamill publicly praised Dave Filoni as the right person to lead Star Wars, saying he trusts Filoni with the franchise more than anyone. Hamill’s comments come as Lucasfilm is undergoing changes, with Kathleen Kennedy recently stepping down as president after leading the company for 14 years, according to USA Today.

Dave Filoni is now president and chief creative officer, working with co-president Lynwen Brennan. He’s been a vital part of the Star Wars universe for years, previously working directly with George Lucas on The Clone Wars. Mark Hamill explained that because Lucas mentored Filoni, he understands Lucas’s vision, and that Filoni has a deep understanding of the series itself.

Hamill praised Dave Filoni’s work on shows like The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, specifically mentioning the impressive digitally de-aged version of Luke Skywalker featured in those series. He highlighted Filoni’s significant contributions to these live-action projects.

These comments are being made as Star Wars prepares to release a new movie, “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” in theaters on May 22nd. This will be the first Star Wars film released in almost seven years.

Mark Hamill is currently working with Lego on a new range of Star Wars building sets that use their SMART Play technology. He recently voiced the character of Luke Skywalker again in the Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy game.
